  1. Polish president awards CDPR founders!

    03.05.2013 @ 19:29

Some news from HQ that I just dug up:

CD Projekt founders, Michał Kiciński and Marcin Iwiński along with CD Projekt RED studio head Adam Badowski have been awarded an Order of Polonia Restituta(Order of Rebirth of Poland) by Polish president, Bronisław Komorowski.
The award ceremony took place on 3rd of May, which is Poland's national holiday, held to remember Constitution of May 3. The orders were awarded in the class of Knight's Cross. Order of Polonia Restituta is the second highest civilian order in Poland, only to the rarely awarded Order of White Eagle.

The Order can be conferred for outstanding achievements in the fields of education, science, sport, culture, art, economics, national defense, social work, civil service, or for furthering good relations between countries.
    More on the award: http://en.wikipedia....lonia_Restituta

The ceremony took place in the Royal Castle in Warsaw."The Castle, which have witnessed the creation of the Constitution of May 3, disappeared in the horror of World War II. Today it keeps pleasing us as a proof that we survived and that to this day - for all these Polish generations, for 222 years since the Constitution was passed - we are on the same way - a way of serving the motherland and realizing a dream of good, modern, open for others, brave in confrontation but also in befriending the world"

The awarded creators of CD Projekt wrote in a letter to the president: "20 years ago, when being young, crazy people full of brave plans we were starting our enterprise, and soon after that our work on "The Witcher" series, we wouldn't even think about being in such a place in such character. We just wanted to make a living out of our passion and today we believe that it's passion that brought us here"

Polish president received a collector's edition of the Witcher 2.

Kinda cool, huh? :) Ultimate GOTY :)
  2. The Witcher 2: Blessings from presidents

    15.11.2012 @ 19:47

...ok, ok, maybe not presidents but one, particular president - Bronislaw Komorowski, president of Poland.

In his latest letter to the Silicon Valley enterpreneurs and innovators (Dave McClure, Founding Partner & Sith Lord, 500 Startups; Tina L. Seelig, Executive Director, Stanford Technology Ventures Program; Paul Graham, Co-founder, Y Combinator; Steve Blank, Serial entrepreneur, steveblank.com; Guy Kawasaki, Founding Partner, Garage Technology Ventures; Michael Arrington, Founder, TechCrunch; Tom Foremski, Editor, siliconvalleywatcher.com.) Mr. President mentions Witcher 2 and CDPR while praising Polish IT Industry:

    Quote

We would encourage you to take a look at our gaming industry: during his 2011 visit to Poland, US President Barack Obama received a copy of The Witcher 2, a game designed by CD Projekt RED which has already sold more than 2 million copies; in the meantime, our engineering aptitude is exemplified by NASA’s Curiosity rover, currently exploring Mars, which is fitted with infrared MEMS detectors made by the Polish company called VIGO System. Motorola, Google, IBM and Intel have all invested in our new R&D centers in Poland.

Obviously, there's also English version of this letter: http://www.prezydent...-krzemowej.html

Did any president ever mention EA, Activision or Valve? ;)
  3. Interesting article about AAA development

    04.11.2012 @ 17:44

I just wanted to share this interesting article on the history of development of "Homefront" by THQ's Kaos Studio.

It sheds light on challenges that AAA games development puts on inexperienced studios trying to chase a market leader; provides insight on how complicated relations between developer and publisher can become and more.

"This is how video game development is."

  4. Cyberpunk 2077 - the soundtrack

    19.10.2012 @ 16:05

Some ideas for the soundtrack have already been mentioned in the Cyberpunk 2077 wishlist thread, but I'll start another thread for it so we can have it all in one place.

I applaud the idea of Daft Punk doing the soundtrack or a part of it - it was mentioned already in the wishlist thread. Some arguments for that:

    - they already worked on soundtracks
    - their music, while often catchy and made for clubs, has a certain retro feel to it, while being very futuristic, robotic even. I think it fits Cyberpunk setting really well.
    - Daft Punk themselves are cyberpunk-ish: creating awesome, futuristic music using technology, while being elusive and mysterious (they perform in helmets, ) and also touching human-machine-technology issues in their creations. Their concerts are full of technology and mystery too.

    Some examples:

This song and their stylization is soooo 80s:

  5. Rig upgrade - will this be enough?

    11.10.2012 @ 15:05

I am upgrading my rig so I can finally play TW2 in all its glory. With my friends' advice I came up with a following config and I wonder if it should be enough to play Witcher 2 on High. Or Ultra maybe?

    CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K /3.4GHz, 6MB, LGA 1155, BOX
    Cooling: Thermalright HR-02 Macho Rev.2
    Motherboard: AsRock P67 PRO3 B3 /intel P67/
    RAM: G.Skill 8GB (2x4GB) 1333MHz CL7 RipjawsX
    HDD 1: SSD Intel 330 120GB (500/450MB)
    HDD 2: Seagate 500GB 7200rpm 16MB cache SATA600 Barracuda 7200.
    GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660 OC 2GB DDR5 /192bit/ DVI/HDMI/DP
PSU: OCZ ZT 550W 80+ Bronze modular

I'm not too tech-savvy, so I will welcome any advice from you guys. Maybe you see some components that will cause bottlenecks? Are GeForce GTX 670-680 going to provide better price/performance relation or 660 should be enough for now?

I will appreciate your help :)

Did you know that if you go to the Witcher 2 subforum on GOG and search for "giraffe," you and I are the only ones who have ever used that word there? You'd think something as awe-inspiring as an animal that looks like a long-necked cheetah would come up in conversation more.
