Topics I've Started
23.09.2013 @ 17:25Valve has just announced their upcoming Linux-based operating system (dubbed "SteamOS"), optimised for living room gaming. See the detailed announcement here:
Apparently, in two days some kind of hardware running SteamOS will be announced (note the countdown on this page: http://store.steampo...com/livingroom/ ). Hopefully, it will turn out to be a serious competitor for the upcoming consoles from MS and Sony.
One insteresting piece of information piece of information supplied by Valve:
QuoteWatch for announcements in the coming weeks about all the AAA titles coming natively to SteamOS in 2014.
I wonder whether The Witcher 3 is one of these AAA titles coming natively to SteamOS. I certainly hope so, it would be truly great.
By the way, Gabe Newell believes that Linux (apparently in form of SteamOS) is the future of gaming:
You might say that the he just fears that MS will one day introduce problems for Steam on WIndows, and you will be right. However, with all the money and connections in game industry Valve has, they might very well succeed in making SteamOS/Linux a successful gaming platform.
I'm also wondering what is the third announcement that Valve will give this week (it's known that there will be three announcements in total). Might that be a SteamOS exlusive Half-Life 3? />
23.06.2013 @ 14:42The subject was discussed at some length in other topics, but after all the E3 hype, I'd like to have a dedicated topic on this matter.
So, CD Projekt RED has announced that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be released in 2014, without further specifying the release day. While I'm sure that CDPR will pick the optimal release date that works best for them, I'm interested in the general opinion here on the forum on that matter.
Personally I believe that TW3 should be released in Q4 2014, to give CDPR as much time to polish the game as possible, especially taking into account the quite ambitious goals they annnounced. With all the hype among the general public, it's, imo, very important to CDPR to not underdeliver on their promises, which means it's better to sacrifice earlier release date for more polishing. The wait will be torturing me, but I'll handle it, knowing that I'll get a better game in the end.
22.06.2013 @ 02:29It's not like there is any chance that TW3 will lose the first round anyways, but still here is the link to vote for it as "GameSpot People's Choice Most Exciting Game of E3 2013":
Further rounds might turn out to be tougher, but I'm quite confident that TW3 can win.

02.03.2013 @ 21:12The screenshots of The Witcher 3 released so far are amazing, and the graphics will be even better with the new renderer. However, there is a minor problem evident from looking at the screenshots: the lack of proper antialiasing. In fact, the same problem persisted in The Witcher 2, with ubersampling disabled the antialiasing didn't work well enough.
So the qeustion is: are the devs going to implement proper antialising this time? Something like SMAA (http://www.iryoku.com/smaa/), preferably? Or at least give an option to choose the desirable level of MSAA, like MSAA 4x or 8x?
Of course, it's a minor detail, but it would still be great to see this aspect improved.
