So I just finished the game again and I noticed in the outro the flame representing Nilfgaard sweeping over a map of the North Mahakam and Brokilon are untounched by it. This got me thinking that either of these locations could be potential settings for the start of the game before Geralt heads into Nilgaard to search for Yennefer, since this implies that these locations successfully defend or are left alone by the Nilgaardians they can be 'blank-slates' that are always the same whatever choices you made in TW2.

That way when Geralt asks or is told about how the war is progressing in the rest of the North the information is related through dialogue rather than cutscenes, this way players choices in TW2 can be seen to have an effect without having to manage all the different variables and endings available in TW2 or ignoring it completely (E.g. If there is a strong North the defence against the invasion can be seen to be going good, if there is a weaker North Nilfgaard can be heard to be making huge gains against the Nordlings)
