but in true Internet fashion, the surprise was beaten to the surprise by the surprise which was originally going to be the surprise, surprising us before the surprise could become surprise we were supposed to be surprised by.

I went to the uk. amazon yesterday, to order a copy of The Last Wish. Since i don't own a credit card, i found out with relief that i could pay with a cheque or a postal order.  I made my order, and then i noticed this line:

Quote

Customers outside the UK, please note:

We will only accept cheques and postal orders that are:

    * Denominated in pounds sterling
    * Drawn on a UK bank
    * Preprinted with your bank's six-figure sort code

I canceled my order because i 'm not so sure i won't have troubles. Please, can you help me? Although my English are good enough to understand anything, i 'm not sure what they want me to do.  :wall:  Please, don't hesitate to explain  as if i was 6 years old, i need it!  ;D

Basically, unless you have an account with a UK bank, they don't want your money. I don't see a general way around that, but I'll PM you.

My husband had a summer job in Britain last year, and we opened an account with a British bank.  Since the dollar was so weak against the pound, we left the money there when we came home, and our British bank sends our bank statements all the way to the US.  So, you don't have to be a citizen to open a bank account.  I don't know if opening an account in another country is worth it to you, but I just thought I'd mention that you can be a foreigner and have a British bank account.

Want to be IN a computer game? I'm making one, and I want a picture of you! See here for details.

I've made three new adventures for TW1; you can get them at corylea.com/.

I've also made a bunch of mods that fix bugs, kill annoyances or tweak gameplay; you can get those at the Witcher Nexus.

Okay for all you cool cats who want to buy the Witcher books online but don't where, this is for you!  :D
Note that some of the books aren't listed on the first page of the search. Also don't enter the witcher into the search bar, enter the book name!
The obvious place to go is Amazon or ebay but for those cool cats like me who don't really like Amazon or ebay then follow these links. Add some yourself if you like!  ;D
These are also for the last wish, if you're looking for the Blood elves try within these stores as well, but I think it will be a will while before they really get in stock.
Lastly all of these are in English sorry if you are native to Germany or somewhere else with your own language, I tried!  ;)

The Last Wish:
Australian, and some New Zealand stores:

Is it right that «The Last Wish» is the story that is also covered in The Witcher, and that «Blood of the Elves» is the story afterwards?

And what is the difference between this and that – cover only or also the content?

The Last Wish is a collection of short stories set in the Witcher universe. One of these short stories, The Witcher, is depicted in the game by way of the introduction movie sequence. The game itself tells a different story though, one that is set after the conclusion of the saga and does not appear in any of Sapkowski's writing (and therefore cannot be considered canon).

Blood of Elves narratively comes after the stories in The Last Wish.

:hmmm: I'd wager it's just the covers that differ. I haven't heard of any differences in content between publishing runs. I have the one with this cover and from what I can see from reading the Witcher Wiki, I haven't missed out on anything. From memory, the stark red cover is the US version, whereas the bookish looking on is simply the UK version.

edit: I just checked the Wiki page for the Witcher series and found no differences in the described contents of the book, so it looks like it is just the covers. Thought so, but I thought I'd better check before sending you up the garden path :)

Not even nearly. The Last Wish and Blood of Elves and indeed all of Sapkowski's other books are all before - quite a long time before - the story in The Witcher. The Last Wish is essentially a slightly postmodern skit on a number of classic European folk tales - it's good but it isn't great, I think the nearest English language equivalent would be Fritz Leiber's Ffard and the Grey Mouser stories. When I read The Last Wish I was surprised that such a big deal seemed to be being made of stories which didn't seem that outstanding. Blood of Elves really moves up a gear, creating a whole consistent world with complex geopolitics and a much richer range of characters; it really is good work - but leaves the reader disappointingly dangling. It's not a complete narrative in itself and you definitely need to read the next book in the sequence (which, sadly, isn't translated into English yet).

Both are worth reading; The Last Wish is fun and interesting and Blood of Elves is an excellent start to a narrative.

So most of the story for The Witcher has been invented by Project Red? Is that right?

I'll receive my books in 3 until 4 months :-/

Hi!
I'm writing here because I think I need your help. :)
I bought The Last Wish few months ago (and I finished it the last week), but it's the red cover version. I already bought Blood Of Elves hardcover version, but I would like to have the first book too, in that version. I know that it's out of print and so it's quite difficult to find it, but do you know any other places where I have a little chance to find a copy? Thanks! ;)

I found both books at Waterstone's in London, I think the best way to read those books is to read them while or after you play the game. If I'm not wrong 'The Last Wish' is basically an introduction to the witcher's world through all those little stories and 'Blood of Elves' is a complete story (I haven't yet finished reading it, actually). and then there is 'The witcher - the game'.

Does anybody know if they're going to translate any other books about the witcher? Has anybody saw the film or the TV series?
