I know Dandelion carries your inventory in Chapter Five and you leave him at the dike with Vince and the forces there.  Then Geralt disappears into Old Vizimia.  I've played though the part where Shani has been escorted out to the swamp and things are quiet again in the town.  However I cannot figure out a way to get back to The Dike to access my things for other potions, reagents for mixing more potions, oils.

Once you leave Dandelion the first time is that the total end of access to your things?  If so I will need to replay from there because frankly, I left most my potions, oils and preferred reagents on him for later use.  If one regains access to the Dike at some point, when does that point come?  For right now, when I try the gates to the Dike, they're locked.  If ability to re entry into the dike area comes to late, better to just grab my stuff before going in in the first place.  Thanks

There's a mod you can get here http://witcher.wikia...nnkeeper%27_mod that will allow Kalkstein to becone your "Innkeeper" in Old Vizima. When you apply the mod, Kalkstein will suddenly have all of your stuff.

AWESOME!  Thank you so much for that link.  Mixing and matching specific secondary substances depending on the potion's function is something I really enjoy doing a lot.  There was no way I was going to be able to carry all my various selections of the main herbs each having their specific secondary effect.  Almost my entire inn inventory is reagents.  I went back and pre-made a lot of my favorite potions before leaving Dandelion plus getting all the teeth I'd been saving for the dentist, which doesn't leave me much room at all.  This'll make it much easier this play through and the subsequent ones  I am doing.

You have to wonder what the devs at CPD were thinking with that part. It makes sense to cut off access to the docks during the chaotic part in the beginning, but as things calm down there's no reason to have that gate locked with access cut off to Dandelion. TW is a great game, but little things like this are what kept the game from being a masterpiece.

Well yes, especially since the Temerian Knights show up to restore order and patrol the area :), and they were part of the forces at the Dike also, you'd think they'd want a way in and out.

I'd say it was on purpose.

The whole game you are inventory challenged.

Surely in testing they would have found out there was no storage if there was intended to be storage.

A little warning would be nice your first playthrough but second time round you can easily be stocked with enough potions in Act 3-4  to last till games end.

Where is the link to that Kalkstein Mod?  All I see is a description of it.  I see a link to the Dentist Mod, but not Kalksteins.

I refuse to think of the "no access to inventory" DURING Act V is a bug / design flaw.
Certainly, the sudden shock of finding yourself without access to your massive warehouse of potion components and stacked potions will invoke a "sour grapes" attitude with the noobs who get caught the first time around like it did to me. but since I worked my way up from EASY, the first-time loss wasn't too bad and subsequent games has made me ultra-prepared inventory-wise from then on.  Especially with EE's new ingredient inventory extension - a welcome addition.

You fought your way through Acts I, II and III.  All well and good.  Then you paused to enjoy the majestic fields of Act IV, and the peace and tranquility of Murky Waters?  C'mon.  This "calm before the storm" should be obvious to us all.  And who should have time in the middle of war-time to fiddle around with your belongings?  The lack of inventory access FORCES the player to continue playing the story through, and not keep spending time making potions and storing them with the innkeeper. Tut-tut-tut *shakes head*.

Vizima is burning, and Dandelion gives you a last chance to grab what you need for the upcoming Act.  That is all that's needed.  The only thing the developers COULD have added here is a dialogue warning from Dandelion "take what you need, you may not get another chance to do so in the near future" for example.  Besides, you carefully chose your talents right?  RIGHT?!?  I should think so.  And if you're playing HARD on your first go, you get what's coming to you.  HARD is for people who've played the Witcher BEFORE.  MEDIUM is for RPGers who are new to Witcher.

By the end of Act IV, if you've been a good Geralt, you should have quite a bit of coin.  This in itself could be all you need here, as you can buy base coatings / alcohol / powders from the NPCs, and hunt out the ingredients needed to make potions / oils / bombs.

Thus endeth the story.

I'm with you chuckles :) ... it was a shock on my first play though, but i like to think of myself as a resourceful gamer, so i just dealt with it and moved on ... it's not a big deal at all  :peace:

I completely agree with chuckles on this one  :P Oh! And EASY is for noobs that never played RPG's or games on anything other than a platform.  :teeth: Personally, I found it quite odd that Dandelion of all people suddenly wants to hold my inventory for me when there is an Innkeeper right here in the ACT and all ACTs for that matter--except for Epilogue.

You can't normally access your storage during act V, indeed, but when you get to the epilogue you will have one last opportunity to claim your stuff.

Chuckles got to the point  Though I wasn't amused when I found out the first time I don't have access to my odds and ends. But it wasn't that bad because I always have potions in the satchel to have them within reach. Same goes for alchemy ingredients. I am too lazy to make detours to an innkeeper  ;D
I can see what you see not, Visions milky then eyes rot.
When you turn they will be gone, whispering their hidden song.
Then you see what cannot be, shadows move where light should be.
Out of darkness, out of mind – cast down into the Halls of the Blind…

Does The Witcher EE add a "inn keeper" to Chapter V so the inventory can be accessed?

No. Well, not that I saw on my last playthrough, which was my first time through the EE. I just went through Chapter V the other day. Unless they've hidden him away somewhere I didn't think to look, I definitely didn't see an inkeeper inside the city. Only Dandelion on the Dike.

Well, that's kinda suck. I wonder if the mod that turns Kalkstein into an "innkeeper" is still working.

Geralt is in the middle of a war zone.  War means chaos, widespread damage, and yes, shortages.  I think it's much better that Geralt can't just saunter into the middle of a war zone and find whatever he needs.  The first time I played, I really had to scramble to find enough alcohol for potions in the beginning of Act V, and that made the war seem realer to me -- it isn't just burning scenery; it has an actual effect on the player.

Want to be IN a computer game? I'm making one, and I want a picture of you! See here for details.

I've made three new adventures for TW1; you can get them at corylea.com/.

I've also made a bunch of mods that fix bugs, kill annoyances or tweak gameplay; you can get those at the Witcher Nexus.

I'm with you all the way on this one, Corylea :) Narratively I find it makes much more sense to have limited inventory access than not. I found it an interesting dynamic to throw into the mix at a time when the game was already kicking into high gear :) That doesn't mean it isn't a bit of a pain sometimes, but as I said in another thread, I don't mind seeing Geralt in a little bit of pain sometimes... just a little bit ;)

Besides, the game seemed to be throwing up all these warning signs that the mechanisms were about to change. Narratively, when I landed back at the Dike with Dandelion to find a King ensconsed on the bank with a small guard and the city in flames with fighting in the streets, that was my biggest clue that maybe the old game mechanisms weren't going to play here. I mean, and again I speak narratively, with all the talk on the bank about the full-scale fighting that had spilled out into the streets, as Corylea said, what sort of villager or townsperson would be operating their business as normal? That was my second big clue.

And with Dandelion hauling all my gear and haunting a convenient fireplace, that was my third clue that I'd better stock up now rather than leave it until later.

So I was able to guess from the narrative that there might be a coming inventory shortage. I also made the same guess at the end of Act III when Triss told me to sort out any unfinished business in Vizima - so I loaded poor Geralt up like a pack horse, and to add insult to injury the poor bloke had to run to evade the Kikimore Queen :D Turns out I guessed wrong in that instance, but I suppose you could say I was prepared for just about anything :D But even if you don't guess correctly, as game widow said, there's still stuff available for the resourceful witcher :)
