[ACT III] Activate the teleport in the Salamandra cave
23.12.2007 @ 21:15 #2
There must be a blue magic stone in the caves which opens the teleport portal to let in your support.
I can see what you see not, Visions milky then eyes rot.
When you turn they will be gone, whispering their hidden song.
Then you see what cannot be, shadows move where light should be.
Out of darkness, out of mind – cast down into the Halls of the Blind…

It wasn't there? Strange o_O You can try to fight the Salamandra mob alone but this could be pretty tough. This is the last quest before you move to act 4. Some quests can't be finished in act 3, they continue in the follwing chapters. For all unfinished sidequests in Act 3 you will get a red cross in your quest journal which simply indicates "failed".
I don't know if you can leave the Salamandra hideout at this game score to finish unsolved quests. I've never tried it. Completed quests reward you with experience.

There is two options here on how to acquire the magic stone.
1. You can get the stone to activate the magic barrier or portal gate, when you smashed the Salamandra in the city swears
2. In the cave if you look to your right there should be a Salamandra mage guarding the stone. Kill him and take the stone to activate the portal. The magic portal stone should register in your quest inventory.

Hi,
Well, I’ve been all over the forum trying to find anyone who is having my problem in Act III, and so far I’ve struck out. Running EE DVD, which until now has been great. I’m in the Salamandra cave (after teleportation from the Narakort), I take out the enemy (and those pesky Ifrits), but the game won’t let me activate Alvaro’s Portal (I’m allied with Yaevinn).
I get the cut scene with the Professor saying I’ll “never be able to take out his whole army”, which is pretty much the case, since when I’m released from the cut scene, another Salamandra army approaches, and I have to do it all over again. Battling them a second and third time does not change the issue (at least I don’t have game freezes here, like many I read about on the forum).
Power stone is in my inventory. I’ve tried doing it with just the stone I had previously (from the Lock & Key quest) , and with just the Mages’s stone that you can pick up at the entrance (and with BOTH in inventory), and that doesn’t change anything.
I’ve tried going directly to the Portal without fighting the Salamandras, and that doesn’t work.
Anyone have a solution? :-\

The broken issue is the Alvaro's portal? You can't activate it to get backing from Yaevinn and his friends? :hmmm:
Actually you need to do this step. Every time you defeat one Salamandra troup an other troup follows. With your allies you should manage an end at least for the next phase when you talk to Azar Javed. I don't know an other alternative to get to this scene.
Did you try an other save game? Once I had an other issue in the main Salamandra base. Everytime I finished the Salamandra mage in the small tributary cave the game freezed and crashed -.- I took an other save and everything was alright then.

After one kills the Mage , Infrit and picks up the power stone , don't forget to check out the "box" (goodies) go over to the portal and left click on the pile of rubble. The portals seam to be a little picky on your position so try left side , middle , or right side of it. Hope this helps DC

do you have the power stone ? if not, that is your problem , but there is one there that you can grab. (as you fact Alvaro's portal, there is a small area behind you with only one salamandra mage, a circle of element (yrden) , a crate (with the stone) and some interesting reading) :peace:

I'm here. I have the stone, I defeated, I don't know... a hundred salamanders!!!
But I couldn't activate the stupid portal. I didn't have any option or signal for doing anything in the rocks...
Worst part is, after a while trying, the game crashed...
Well, after that I came to work, so I haven't tried a second time yet...

If you've defeated THAT many Salamanders, then you've missed the portal.
Triss teleports you to a corridor in a cave, the end of which is blocked by some tree branches. Once you Aard those, you get half a dozen Salamanders. Once you wipe those out, continue on, and you meet up with your ally, who tells you that there's a stone, guarded by a mage. If you picked up the stone in the Salamandra Hideout -- the one they used to talk to Radovid -- then you don't have to fight that mage unless you want to. If you didn't pick up the stone in the Hideout, then you need to fight the mage and pick up that stone.
And that's all the Salamanders you need to fight before activating the portal! The waves and waves of Salamanders are further along in the big room than the portal is. The portal is just ahead and to the left of where you meet your ally.
Here's a picture that shows the location of everything:

The most obvious thing that looks like a portal is the one at the far end of the room, behind which are Azar Javed and The Professor. This is NOT actually a portal. There's a pile of rocks that jump up and form themselves into a portal, and this is not all that obvious, but THIS is the portal you're supposed to activate. If you hold down the ALT key (or turn object labels on in the Options menu), you'll see that the pile of rocks is labelled "Alvaro's Portal." It's early in that room, before the Salamandra thugs.
Here's what it looks like when not activated:

To activate it, all you have to do is to click on it IF you have the stone. You don't have to do anything fancy; there isn't even one of those "gift" interfaces where you drag the item to the box -- just click, that's all.
Once activated, your allies start coming through it. I took Yaevinn with me, so I got elves and dwarves:

Your allies can handle the baby Salamanders. Once you have activated the portal, you can go to the far end of the room and talk to Azar Javed.
Want to be IN a computer game? I'm making one, and I want a picture of you! See here for details.
I've made three new adventures for TW1; you can get them at corylea.com/.
I've also made a bunch of mods that fix bugs, kill annoyances or tweak gameplay; you can get those at the Witcher Nexus.

Thanks master. Yes, in fact, I started again (my game crashed during the fight) and now the symbol for activate the portal was there inmediately. Then was an easy fight... except for the stupid kikimora queen, because at first I tried to kill her face to face, jeje...
I'm starting chapter IV now... and I hope all the main quest are in development...
