I still have a soft spot for the Scoia'tael -- the non-humans are SO oppressed -- but I won't argue this point. However,

That bank was stolen from Vivaldi in the first place. The government just confiscated a bank that had been in his family for generations, not because he's done anything wrong, not because the bank has been mis-managed, but solely because he's a dwarf. Case it! Hell, I'll HELP them steal the damned thing back!

And if you listen to Yaevinn when you help him, part of what they take at the bank is paperwork that they believe will help him get the bank returned to Vivaldi.

The Order IS evil in Murky Waters. Siegfried wasn't there, though. He might have done the same thing if he WERE there -- he does seem to hate non-humans just as much as the other members of the Order -- but it's possible that he'd have been more reasonable if he'd been on the spot. ›››

I believe it's said that the order to invade the village and assassinate the elves came from Siegfried; presumably it was either pre-planned or brought in by messenger. White Rayla is furious over it, though she may be more upset with Siegfried pulling rank on her than with the action itself.

If you side with the Order, there's a charming scene where White Rayla catches up with Siegfried and chews him out up one side and down the other (though it's not for this incident). Siegfried is shocked by her language; Rayla ignores him and keeps up the stream of four-letter words.

Siegfried is neither foolish nor evil, in my opinion; he's just unable to see beyond the way the Order has done things ever since they came to power.
The amateur tenor, whose vocal villainies
All desire to shirk,
Shall during off hours exhibit his powers
To Madame Tussaud's wax-work.

Yes, I know. But if he'd BEEN there and seen that Geralt was trying to negotiate between the two sides, it's possible that he would have allowed that negotiation to happen. Not guaranteed -- it's clear during the bank job that the plan of "kill all the non-humans" is okay by him -- but possible.

I was surprised, though, to hear that you were down on the Scoia'tael for trying to steal Vivaldi's bank BACK. I mean it was his bank to begin with, and he didn't do anything wrong!
Want to be IN a computer game? I'm making one, and I want a picture of you! See here for details.

I've made three new adventures for TW1; you can get them at corylea.com/.

I've also made a bunch of mods that fix bugs, kill annoyances or tweak gameplay; you can get those at the Witcher Nexus.

There was no way that situation was going to resolve itself peacefully from my perspective. Rayla's offer is for them to surrender, she won't just let them walk away, and the elves aren't interested in that. In truth the Order's attack right there and then may have just saved the life of every villager present since the elves were distracted and didn't have the chance to slit their throats before going into battle.

As Geralt himself says it if you help Siegfried at the bank: "You don't negotiate with terrorists. Negotiation leads to concessions, concessions are a victory for terror."

With regards to that letter what Rayla mentions is that she wanted to delay the attack but that she was overruled by her adjutant who had a letter from Siegfried stripping her of command, she doesn't say anything more then this by the way. To me it seems Siegfried and/or the Order in general didn't trust Rayla, in fact her adjutant tells you ( if you helped the Order at the bank ) that they can't trust Rayla.

Even if Siegfried was the one to give the order to attack the village I'd still agree with him. Yes children may die but as I've mention if you let them get away with it will only mean that they will do the same in the future. I also fail to see how the Order was evil there. Did they take men and women and children hostage and threaten to execute them? No they didn't, it was Toruviel and her Scoia'Tael.

Except that they screw Vivaldi in the end ( otherwise why would he still be living in that rundown house at the end? ), so Yaevinn lied. I sided with the Scoia'Tael there in my very first run not because of their cause but for Vivaldi. well that didn't help him at all.

I beat TW1 three times using all three paths. I did the Order first, then Scoia'tael then Neutral. I felt that Neutral was the best.

The order is the enemy. Even in the sequel they are an enemy to temerian interests. Although, if you side with them in 1, in 2 they will let you pass, trade with them and do what is good for temeria without attacking you. Only once i sided with them.

The Squirrels are a decent choice. Yet they are at fault too. Only reason i most of the times side with them is that if i do not, Toruviel dies and Zoltan is alone in the burning hell of a city. I have watched the TV series, and i always take pity in Toruviel dying in-game. Also the actress was too damn hot, so the squirrel path sex card in act 5 was a thing i had always been looking forward to.

Finally, and most importantly, the neutral ending was my thing. Staying true to being a witcher, with everyone disapproving and resulting thus in his even bigger alienation and shunning from society and contacts. I always were sad about the witcher 2 missing a neutral path. My first playthrough was a killer-Geralt, killing the werewolf/striga/yaevinn/siegfried. After that, i watched the TV series, and acted exactly as geralt would. Cure whatever could be cured, avoid killing humans or intelligent humanoids (vetala anyone?) at all costs, avoid killing monsters with good morals vs men with bad ones, and so on. Up to this day, a normal, geralt-like choicelisted, complete savegame of the first title, is my starting point for the second title.
Idiots who only go after reality rather than philosophy, pursuing money rather than love and power rather than friendship; crazy world...
