I chose Shani over Triss, and didn't feel in the least dissapointed by the ending.  I pursued the romance, but the way I saw it was we would settle down much later.  I had assumed that we would leave Vizima together and move onto other troubled areas, Geralt fighting monsters and Shani caring for the sick and wounded.  As far as I was concerned, it didn't need to be explained in the ending as it had already been finalised in the game.  Sure, with the assassin at the end the plan will change, but that's now the domain of the sequel.

Quite nice!

With the benefit of your thoughts and Antaios' earlier thoughts, I'm thinking the second Shani option might be "Something More Than Destiny".

Why do you think that Shani will be Head of OxenFurt College of Medicine regardless of what she and/or Geralt chooses?

Antiios,

I agree with you -- what you thought you were choosing seems entirely plausible in light of character growth and development. The second Shani option is problematic to me -- the others make good sense without an additional "ending".

In your earlier post, you mentioned how the problem might have arisen as a result of trying to get the game out at the end... You might enjoy reading the following blog of one of the developers, titled "Crunch Time" here http://blogs.ign.com/Thilnen. Seems that you are probably right...

Re your query about Shani's help in the "ice world" at the end; she's there because of your choice of her as opposed to Triss, i.e., Shani will be there when you leave Alvin with her (regardless of which additional romance option you choose), and the same is true of Triss.

I've just got to add that I think you'll get lots of additional enjoyment from replays with slight or major variations in this game.  There's just so much there... The developers really were obsessed.

That explains alot of what I meant when I said towards contractual release dates, "cheaper, faster" takes precedence.

I can imagine that kind of work schedule being very difficult, confusing and rushed.  I have pulled 80 hour shifts at some jobs but even then 12hour daily shifts was my max.

Glad they got it done and able to be distributed in time.  Yet a romantic ending option would have been a nice touch.  ;)

Thanks for clarifying.

Assuming this is something accepted or intended also by the developers, one could still imagine different ways to reconcile the scenarios... Admittedly, imagination would be key.

Perhaps the developers would be pleased if their work inspired imagination.

Sure, they have lots of "space" to move in, relatively speaking, and they did a superb job in realizing the world.

This was one of the reasons I was very disappointed in the game's ending, here all these characters were created and they just disappear once their usefulness to the story is gone. Besides Shani, I wanted to know what happened to Zoltan. I did run across Carmen, who chewed me out for killing Vincent.

I played the romance with Triss and i completed the quest when you realize that "Triss is my true love"......and in the end they go on separate ways......if there is a sequel(and it should be), it should focus on clearing up the romance.. Alvin=GM, and the assassains witcher school...

How long until The Witcher 2 is completed and released? And will there be a character export / import feature added to the first and second games so we can use our particular Geralt in the second one, along with all the stuff we collected and put into storage?

I too was exteremly dissapointed that the ending cutscenes brings no mention of your love interest despite me telling Shani that I will be with her at the end when his mess is over.

Hi Folks. Personally I chose to give Alvin to Triss .I just finished Chap5 and with the dialog options I chose I believe Geralt and Triss will have a peronal relationship albeit an unconventional one. Both are sterile. In Armor quest Geralt asked Kalkstien if he had found a cure for infertility. In opening  scene Geralt tells Triss " I can't lose you " and she replies she will be there "for always". I haven'tdone Epiloge yet but sounds like the ending was left vague on purpose...like the season ending cliff-hanger on a soap opera..to leave it open for sequels. I hope so .I just wish they would change storage so you couldloot weapons for more money and be able to carry 2 silver swords instead of only 2 steel or iron weapons. Anyway. thats my thoughts..

The ending cutscene filled me with massive illusions of Grandeur...

Khaaaarta jeeeeee ya inya inyaaa duluuun...

"Temeria and Redania are allies, thanks in no small part to you. For your efforts then, a worthy pouch of gold.."

"Your highness"

"Master..."

Glaaang Glaang...

I agree with Wildtex1.  :)

I chose Triss as well. I see Geralt and Triss together but not in the conventional sense of "family" because that would not be the style of either of them.  While this may contradict what's in the books, I see Geralt continuing to do what Witchers do - slay monster, lift curses, etc -- and Triss continuing as an advisor to the King, and the two of them spending time together as they can.  It would make no sense for Triss to leave Foltest's court, nor would it make sense for Geralt to stop doing what he does so well.  They understand each other -- and their destiny -- but this does not keep them from loving one another.

The conversation in the castle regarding them becoming farmers or such is just ludicrous, and I think even Triss does not believe her own words, but I still believe that can stay together. Yes, yes I AM a diehard romantic at heart :-*

That conversation was so out of character that I actually wondered whether Triss was mocking Geralt. Honestly, can you see her as a farmwife?

Hehehe... I never thought of it as a mocking conversation but that could very well be what she was doing ;D

Triss, a farmwife???? As believable as Geralt a farmer.. or maybe even less believable!!!
