[EPILOGUE] Zeugl battle -- help

12.11.2007 @ 23:14 #1

Aye, hate to be the first to ask about it and shows I'm probably the first to get stuck. But I can't seem to get very far when fighting the Zeugl in the Sewers. I get down there and I tell my trusty companion to aim for the torso and ignore those pesky tentacles. So I go in potioned up a bit but whatever I do I can't find a torso anywhere. I try to see if I have to interact with the enviroment, like you do at the start of the game, to try and make it come above the water. I try and just run around as long as I can to see if there's a certain amount of time before it peaks its head, and I've tried attacking the tentacles to anger it to come up. But after ages of doing all three I just get killed by the tentacles and I can't see any way to attacking its torso. Any ideas to what I'm doing wrong?

You have to kill the tentacles to get the head to come up

The tentacles at each end of the tunnel can't be killed, they are just there to confine the fight. Move to the middle of the area and kill tentacles there, each time you kill a few the head of the monster will appear

I was successful using group silver style on tentacles then switching to strong silver on the head. You also can maneuver behind it and it appeared to me to land more damage.

the journal clearly states "To kill a zeugl one has to remove its tentacles first."

360 degree igni was a nice help, too.

Was easy at medium, 2 times blizzard, swallow, tawny owl and Igni with nearly all skills filled.... Short Game... Only the Wild Hunt and the Grandmaster where shorter fights with this combination... Rocks :D Who needs swords when there are the Signs :D

As other people said, you have to kill some tentacles (I think 4: I did't start counting them immediately), and then the torso is available. What I used was 3 or 4 igni (level 2) and then strong silver sword (level 5, I'm a dumb barbarian in the bottom of my heart). After this, it disappears, and you have to face several tentacles again. I had to repeat this process about ten times: I can't tell if Zeugl recovers its wounds while hidden in water, or simply it has tons of hit points. The best way I found to survive is to place yourself under the waterfall on the side of the room, with your back against the wall. In this way, only one tentacle at a time can attack you, the one that stands in the water immediately in front of you (moreover, the others typically attack Yaevinn, if he is alive). It is easy for you to concentrate on this tentacle and kill it with two strong hits or three quick ones. In a matter of seconds a new tentacle will appear in the same place, so you can kill 4 of them in a row. In the time it took to do this, my endurance recovers completely (I wear the gnomish-elf-metal armor, that accelerates the recovery, IFIRC), so I could re-cast 3-4 igni spells. I drank only a swallow potion, and it was enough to take care of the wounds made by tentacles. I'm not sure, but I think Zeugl never hit me, with my combo igni followed by strong sword, so probably swallow is unnecessary. Hope it helps...

I don't know about you guys, but I thought this Zeugl thing went on way way too long, besides that, how can that stupid thing just disappear on you in water that only comes up to your waist???? Sorry, I shouldn't ask questions like that.

Yes, it's a good point. I also thought that it's stupid.

360 igni on the tentacles as someone already said, and the head will show up. Just take out your silver sword and use the strong style and start whacking some sense into that hemaphrodite :P No potions needed. Very easy.

This is what I found to be the best tactic, too. All in all, it was a tedious and silly task though.

The Zuegl was pretty easy for me as well, group silver on the tentacles and strong silver on the head. 360 Igni was extremely helpful. Yaevin was pretty useless and spent a great deal of his time face down in the muck.

I think I was level 33 or 34 when I battled the zuegl.

The Zeugl fight was very boring! In the end I used the aeron with group fighting style to quicken the battle.

Hi
I can't tell you how sick I am of this fight, I've tried so many different things but I get killed in no time.  I don't know what level Geralt is on but I managed to beat the korschoy or whatever it was more easily than this one.  I have read the other thread about this but group silver and strong silver doesn't seem to do much for me.  I've tried lots of different potion combinations but I haven't got any swallow or tawny owl left and some of them are higher toxicity so I can't take that many.  Even using Blizzard Geralt just seems to get hit constantly from all angles by those hateful tentacles, then when the head comes up he's just getting bitten constantly and moving at snail's pace!  Has anyone else had this horrible difficulty here, I'm getting so sick of it I might give up on the game as I can't keep going through it a million times.  I can't make any bombs, sword oils or many potions because I seem to have an inventory full of useless ingredients that never get used and there's no way I can change that right now.  I tried different signs, but whenever I've used the protective shield I still seem to get damaged even if I'm not doing anything, so I usually stick with aard or igni, but neither of these seem to damage the beast.  I'm just quite fed up at getting stuck here, I thought I was doing quite well  >:(

well the zeugl is sort of two beasts in one. There are the tentacles that do best with group silver (appropriately greased, of course -- argentia or something else good),  swat at those. Then the zeugl head appears, so switch to strong silver and hack at it. Then the cycle repeats, just keep switching from group to strong and back. that should work just fine.

Igni is also very good in either case, especially if you have lots of talents allocated ( i like igni, so by then i can cast a 360 degree circle of flames which works very nicely)

i'm usually at least level 40 by then, but i think the first time i played i was only about level 32 and had no problem

happy hacking

Hi
I've tried all that but I haven't got any special coating on the swords except diamond dust.  I've just found a couple of videos on youtube posted by players beating the zeugl, and I was amazed that they didn't seem to be taking any damage at all from the tentacles - is there some special potion that prevents the damage?  My Geralt's health just zooms down and down and he stands there not moving most of the time as the tentacles seem to hit so thick and fast they prevent him moving, their witcher seemed to move very easily and their health wasn't changing.  Also, their witchers seemed to get the yellow bar regenerating a lot faster than mine, it's really slow and that causes problems not being able to cast very quickly.  I just can't see how I can beat this monster with the stuff I've got ... but I really don't feel like going back to try and change things  :'(  Perhaps I should post a video of my Geralt's terrible performance to show everyone what I'm going through LOL  :wall:
