Foggy: Your W2 DRM question was answered. However I want to talk about this:
the fact that Blizzard is getting so much recognition while RED gets so little is downright depressing. I'd rather not even think about it. If I do, I just get sad and feel like I'm constantly tired.
There's very good solid reasons for that. Blizzard is a company with over 22 years behind ( since they were S&S ), and during that time until late 2009, when they launched Wrath of the Lich King, they produced a good deal of excellent top notch game series: Lost Vikings, Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo. Talking here of games with great gameplay and, in the case of every game from the original Starcraft to Wrath of the Lich King, a good if not great story notwithstanding of course the good lore of Diablo, Warcraft and Starcraft since their creation.
Furthermore Blizzard built a huge fanbase on two things: P&S, that is Polish and Support. In terms of Polish they have continuously released patches for all their games since Warcraft II came out to balance, improve and tweak the gameplay. In terms of support they have ensured that their games that have come out since Warcraft II are compatible with newer and newer systems. I can for instance run Warcraft III at 1920 by 1080 on Windows 8 64 bit without any sort of issue.
And all that is saying very little of World of Warcraft. Some would call it the McDonald's Hamburger of video gaming. I would call it, before Wrath that is, the best video game I've ever played in my life with an interesting story, lore, and the finest gameplay I've seen so far and that was really the recipe for it's success.
Having said all that, no one should wonder why CDPR get's so little recognition compared to Blizzard: They don't have a portfolio as a game developer that goes back 22 years to 1991, they don't have the reputation of making 7 excellent games along with 5 great expansions and then supporting those games with patches even today, some for over a decade!
They still have a long way to go before they match that. To their credit they've built a hell of a reputation in a short time and if Blizzard continues going down this road of lackluster games like Diablo 3, Wrath, Cataclsym, Pandaria, Starcraft 2 and HoS then I think CDPR will come out on top eventually. Especially if they go back and redo TW1 to fix all it's problems.
That is only if they stick to their principles: Negotiating a solid contract with Warner Brothers is one thing that will gain you some short term gains but sticking to your DRM free principles will net a long term gain in terms of a very strong fanbase.
