I LOVE IT vs I HATE IT

I loved it. I've played through twice already, and am on my third play through, trying out the different branching decisions.
Fun combat, great story, FANTASTIC Choice & Consequence ... overall, if every RPG I play from now on is like the Witcher 2, I'll never leave my house.

Well I think I like the game. Yes, Yes I like the game.
It took a while to get the combat system under control on the Xbox, but I've only died once since exiting act 1 and that was because I hadn't realized my blockers were... not with me in the mine when I went through a door or two.
But that was a glitch, and I can live with that.
Hmmm, What should I say?

I love it for its storytelling and great gfx.
I hate it for its console controls.
I swore an oath to NEVER buy a xbox controler for any game. Any game at all. Along comes TW2 and my resolve is fading. I hate TW2 for that.
WHY tell me why? Looting bags on the floor, I damn hate it. Console mini-games like punching the guard or escaping the dragon hitting the right button as it is displayed on screen. COME ON! Ah hates that as well.
I dislike console games for exactly that - but I do not hate console games, because I can simply avoid them.
And by the way: having a visual locking symbol on targets is great when flying F16 or Spaceships, not when swinging a sword. Console jockeys do not care about that, I know. Casual gamers are like this.
One year I have waited until I restarted TW2 Enhanced. I really hoped some issues would be resolved. Now I have the feeling some have gotten worse.
Please people. For the next game. Decide who you want to adress. Console casuals or PC enthusiasts.
Gods it is such a shame...
Edit: please apologize my ranting, I have no intention of upsetting console gamers, some of my friends are and consoles sure have their merits. But the limitations consoles put on PC gaming have been discussed in length. To experience them in a game like TW2 is very frustrating.

No need to apologize for your opinion. I understand you very well. The game pad controls for the pc version of TW2 is the only thing I absolutely don't like. It kills my replay desire. The engrossing story, characters, living locations and non linear plot are in inward urge who say... c'mon, don't be a fusspot
I can see what you see not, Visions milky then eyes rot.
When you turn they will be gone, whispering their hidden song.
Then you see what cannot be, shadows move where light should be.
Out of darkness, out of mind – cast down into the Halls of the Blind…

SAoo, this is the last page of love hate so far. To be honest, i havent purchased the game yet. Ive been eyeing this game, but having been one of the great many who got burned by Biowares false advertisement and poor writing on ME3, ive been extremely wary. I dont consider myself a casual gamer ( i've played ME 1, 2, over 12 times total ( 3 just once ), oblivion 8 time, skyrim four times so far, fable 9 or 10 times ( not those two losers, but the first one )) and spend a great deal of my downtime in a game. I guess what i'm looking to find out now then is, This game is good now, but do you folks believe it'll still be good in a year? Two years? ( I play very long games ). Can I actually win? or lose? Is there a difference??
You all seem to love the game a great deal already. Why??
Thanks for all your replies.. ›››

Most of us have/are re-playing The Witcher after 4 years, TW2 has 1 year in our hands and we still playing and enjoying, and if you take time to read others topics of this forum you'd found the answer to your doubts.

I would like to start off by saying that TW2 is one of the best looking games on xbox360. Casual gamers who own a xbox 360, Casual gamers buy wii's and PS3's not xbox's. The xbox 360 is a great gaming machine. I wouldn't be able to play games like TW2 on a 7 year old pc. I also think it's pretty funny that some people on here think that the xbox version of the game some how ruined the pc version. The pc version came out a full year before the xbox version. I guess my xbox has magical time traveling, pc game destroying powers. Lmao

Loved it. Enthralled 100% of the story. Attempting dark mode now with a different path.
Hate the looting, medallion spam/cooldown where it fizzes, and doors/ladders
The item design in this game is also incredible, I love the unique look and the armour sets are brilliant.
The continued development and respect for the customer/gamers is also a massive plus, something few developers seem to care about these days.
Cheers for a fantastic game.

new member here just writing a reply that might seem like a small novel to some.. ^^
anyways, to start it of i have recently started playing the first witcher game and must say that i am kinda torn...
i love the story, is something the rpg world has missed!
i love the characters , definately among the funnier and more interesting characters in any game i palyed yet!
i love the dark and secret aura over it all, the thought of being a monster/human/mini-wizard/assassin is <3!
but!
- i hate the fighting system, it's totally worthless (an older game though, so i can bear with it.. maybe.)
- i hate the inventory system, dunno if any patches ever fixes it but i can't carry more than i can equip!
- i hate the meditation system, having to talk to someone to meditate? any patch fixed this? i mean, seriously.. -.-
- i hate the alchemy system, having to talk to someone to meditate to do alchemy? -.-'
i should maybe mention that i made the big mistake of trying the second one out a bit first at a friends place, then got interested in how he got there and so bought the first game and planning on buying the second one soon! now, the second game is totally loveable whilst the first in my spoiled eyes is totally disappointing in comparison, but i do like the idea behind it all and will deffo have to read the books, but unless some things are fixed through the patches i am installing the first game will be uninstalled faster than i can eat a swedish meatball!
will however definately get the second game cause i found it more to my liking, but i am also admitting to have high demands of games i play and The Witcheer one so far does not cut it. The Witcher 2 however have changed all the things i hated/disliked from the first game in ways i adore, makes my life easier! ^^
not sure if anyone out there will bother reading this little novel i just wrote, but i am one of the semi-haters, semi-lovers of the first witcher, and totally in love with the second witcher!
best regards / Kain
PS. anyone wishing to correct any grammar mistakes i have made, feel free to do so, always room for improvement!

You can also meditate near outdoor fire places. If they are burning, you can just click on the fireplace. If they are out, you can reignite them using igni (fire) sign (if you have it), or just by clicking on them when you have flint in your inventory (easily found in containers and corpses, but also purchasable). Keep in mind that each flint is used up, so you will need to resupply.

aha, thanks for that information... that should put an end to two things on my hate list then...
just the ridiciolous fighting system and the inventory left... and the inventory i can probably live with.. ^^
will give the witcher a few more hours of active gameplay, but if Geralt doesn't start attacking when i want him to then he will not get any favors from me...

Witcher has a couple of problems, no doubt. At the time of playing, the number one thing that annoyed the shit out of me was the lack of information of what to do and even when. Some npcs are only available in a certain location, during a very specific time. Some quests couldn't be completed if you completed another quest before it. Then you could only complete one out of two quests. Things like that, were god damn annoying beyond belief. I was alt-tabbing every minute to make sure I didn't fuck up or miss anything. Obviously, I messed up anyway.
The mysterious nature of the quests could sometimes get to me. As could the grinding nature of the combat and some of the quests. Overall however, The Witcher is truly phenomenal and I'm really glad I gave it a chance. I bought it years ago but didn't play it because my computer was far too shit to run it. So I put it on the shelf. Then W2 came out and I still haven't gotten around to playing it. Then I finally said fuck it! Time to embark on an adventure of a life time!
And I did. Witcher did not disappoint, despite frustrating the shit out of me from time to time. Witcher 2 was perfect. When I finally got a hang of the combat, the game flowed so well, it's insane. Can't wait for Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk. I'm throwing my damn money on the screen, gief moi gamez!

Tearing my hair out, trying to figure out why there aren't any non-human Witchers, or at least something equivalent to a Witcher oriented warrior.

I have yet to play the witcher 2 but I already know I will love it cuz I'm a RPG fanatic...the witcher 1 i'm currently on chapter 1...and my mouse is rather messed up so I had to hold off playing it but I may watch it instead of playing it on the computer and then I can finally get into The Witcher 2 for Xbox 360.

Best RPG in years! Wonderful job CD Proj! By the way- I really liked Gothic 1 & 2, but Gothic 3 was a terrible disappointment. To me, this feels like what Gothic 3 should have been.
Between The Witcher, Crysis & my new 8800GT- my faith in PC Gaming has been restored. ›››

It is still incredible that the old 8800GT still can produce console crushing visuals.
