It's darth-vader-no-button-time. The situation could hardly be more dire (direr? ^^).
My hope for KotOR III by Obsidian - dead.
Instead I expect to see annually updated star wars battlefront titles from now to the end of time.
Or more MMO-garbage like the old republic.

And yes, I am exaggerating, but I can't be bothered to keep rational when EA is involved ;)

Edit: I just saw that this has already been postet by Glaroug in the Hairy Bear-thread.

It would've been too late for a decent KotOR anyway. LucasArts cancelled KotOR 3 not long after 2 and Karpyshyn and the rest of BioWare fucked the series up with the Revan novel and the meaningless tOR MMO. The times that BioWare made good and logical stories are long behind us.

As for the rest of EA: I figure it's gonna be games for the common denominator. I don't see myself interested in that.
No client-based DRM in disguise.

"So we need someone to develop Star Wars for us"
"Hey boss what about EA?"
Let me google them, one second:

Uhm so shady DLC
Worst company of USA two years in a row against really evil companies
All of their recent games got 4/10
CEO stepping down because of the failure of the company
Tons of layoffs
Made sport fans angry(americans who are disney's target audience)
Failed with SWTOR

"THEY'RE HIRED!"

Yeah you pretty much summed up what I was going to say.

They're giving DICE and Visceral games the mandate to create games under the Star Wars banner. I expect, like you said, nothing but boring, dry and predictable games to be shat out just to make a quick buck.

I don't really care that much. Star Wars has really degenerated as a franchise to fan pandering, illiterate writing, dung heap so I wouldn't be excited at all even if someone else than EA got the rights to make games.

I'll say this though, a new KotOR game. Perhaps by Obsidian? Now that would be something! Alas, instead we're gonna get The Force Unleashed level of quality in the new games produced. Mind you, I didn't think the first one was the worst piece of shit ever created. It was actually pretty average. Still, with such a mega IP, you should be reaching for the stars and experimenting like crazy. People are gonna buy the games regardless of quality which is why zero effort will be put into the games.

Uh. This thread depresses me. I'm gonna go listen to some Nazareth.

And there goes the hope for a new Obsidian RPG in the Star Wars universe. Seems like Disney didn't like their pitch of a RPG set between Ep. III and IV. Or else, they liked EA's money more...

No decent Star Wars games for 'a long time', sigh...

Am i the only one who actually thinks this are good news? Why don't you all stop your infantile shitstorm against EA and accept the reality. Dice has the amazing technology and make excellent shooter games. A Battlefront 3 on the foundation of Frostbite is every gamers dream. Plus, i trust Bioware they make a much better KOTOR 3 than Obsidian could ever deliver.

Obviously, yes.

Except for all those who don't give a sh*t about Battlefield.

Did you see what Bioware did to the franchise with the abomination called "the old republic"?

Battlefront was popular. I quite enjoyed it myself and plenty give a damned about it. Will they ruin it? Yes. Will it be EA's fault? Yes.

You can have all the best studios in the world but their publisher can ruin them.

That's Bioware's fault not EA.

Can people please stop blaming EA for Bioware's fuckups? You know what people are very eager to forget about the LOTR licensed games that EA made and the Harry Potter ones. Yes there were some bad games like LOTR Conquest and Harry Potter 4 and 7, but EA also delivered LOTR: Return of the King, Battle for Middle Earth, Harry Potter 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6.

Give a good reason as to why they would ruin a game that was almost finished before Disney put their foot down and close LucasArts.

Oh it's one thing to say EA will put in annoying DLC, DRM and so on and so forth. But those things are indicative of shitty business practices, not bad games.

ME3 is not a bad game because of the microtransactions or DLC that EA forced Bioware to implement, it's a bad game simply because Bioware developed it like a piece of turd.

Meh, star wars games were dead already. It's not like EA can murder that franchise for the second time.

Who cares, Star Wars is already dead.

Heck, if they do make a Battlefront 3 that is inspired by Battlefield, it would be better than most games using the Star Wars license, so let them go ahead.

To paraphrase Gandalf, I still hold a fool's hope for a Star Wars space sim placed in the old trilogy time frame... a man can dream, I guess... :crybaby:

Who knows, maybe this is the chance for EA and the parties involved to strive for the Ultima Days, or maybe they'll stick to the status quo and realize "Star Wars is Dead anyway. Let's see what we can get away with."

Ah, well. Its doubtless they can do more damage to my soul than Ewoks.

The worst thing is that something like this, a reskinned Battlefield 3, would probably sell like hotcakes.

Meh, the only thing I would be interested in is an M rated Star Wars game. Battlefront defenitely not for me. The rest would have to convince me first.

Obsidian implemented the only interesting thing in the Star Wars universe, Kreia and her determination to wound the force unto death, and since TORtanic raped the Sith Lords to death i'm utterly uninterested. Seems perfect for Bioware though, binary simplistic morality, cliche'd caricatures, cheesy romances and utterly assinine plots and narrative. The perfect union.
The bastard at the family re-union.

Hm, the only good part about the new Star Wars movies was the part, where the Younglings were killed. That was a glimpse of the Dark Side, the really Dark Side. Not this black and white, good and evil. The corruption and desperation in us all. Star Wars always has big words on the subject, but never delivered a real mature interpretation. I want to see people loose their way with the force, I want to see the struggle with power, mistrust, failing ideals. Give us the Dark Side of human nature, the really Dark Side.

Oh and cool fights similar to the SW:TOR trailers. ^^ (Sadly the game didn't deliver at all.)
