So, I've been having issues with v-sync/screen cracks. I've looked high and low for help, and every solution I have found leads to a dead end of sorts. I've posted this to the gog.com forums, where I purchased this game, but have not had any success there. I hope I can find it here!
Pertinent information:
-running Windows 7 64-bit
-my graphics card is Radeon HD 5770 Hawk
-monitor is Lenovo L2261wA, 60 hz refresh rate, connected with HDMI
-core i5 processor/8 gigs RAM
I have not had issue with the game crashing (but granted, I haven't been able to play much of it because the screen cracking is incredibly irritating).
Here is what I have found while searching for help:
-it seems to be a known issue with my graphics card, and forcing v-sync with the ATI control panel is known to not work, neither has using RadeonPro
-v-sync can be forced with a program called D3DOverdrive, which comes with the Rivatune program. However, D3DOverdrive appears to not work with Windows 7 64-bit
-changing resolutions and changing refresh rate doesn't seem to have changed a thing, but using RadeonPro to force a different frame rate changed the position on the screen where the cracks appear
I appear to have exhausted any other possible leads. I have a graphics card known to be problematic, and the software with the potential to fix this issue is incompatible with my operating system.
Does anyone know of any other ways I can fix this game? New graphics card? New OS? Set up a partition on a hard drive with a 32-bit OS?
Any help would be tremendously appreciated!

Issues with v-sync and screen cracking

Have you tried doing it manually using the .ini file in the Witcher 2 folder? Just open the file via Notpad, locate V-Sync (should be near the bottom) and set the value to "1" and save. Not sure if it will do the job those other tools couldn't but I guess its worth a try. I hate screen tearing more than anything and have a similar card. Mine works fine in the Witcher but in Mass Effect,...NO.

O, gottcah. My screen can tear something terrible in this game too. Strange, when I used RadeonPro on the witcher.exe it took care of the V-sync issue, but if I've leanred anything its that graphics cards evil vile creature that refuse to obey.

Exactly which setting did you end up using with RadeonPro? I have fiddled with it, but it only seems to change the position of the screen tears, not exactly fix them. ›››
Sorry for the late reply. I'm also fighting my with my ATI card. Wish someone new would come along and give nVidia and ATI a run for their money.
Anyway, I forced V-Sync on and beefed up Triple Buffering, which is a great help for screen tearing, on the witcher.exe file and not the launcher. Don't believe I used anything else. Hope you get that tearing fixed. Nothing is more annoying save for single digit frame rate.

Are you playing it on steam, gog, or disk?

However, there's no witcher.exe for me, only launcher.exe and register.exe. ›››
witcher.exe should be in The Witcher/system (in the installation directory), at least in the disk version. Using witcher.exe is preferable to using the launcher because it seems to help with crashes. Doubt it would help with your problem but it might be a start.
