Quite an interesting hack-n-slash game with a very original implementation of combat mechanics. Music in the game is also memorable, and matches location and the mood quite well. GOG version works well with Wine on Linux with some necessary tweaks.

Bought it, thanks. I heard this game has one of the best melee combat in 3rd person game. Time to find out. Wish me luck.

Storming Ephyra right now, skeletal bastards are gonna get a bit of what for!

Yeah, I'm curious about this. People say it's like an old version of Dark Souls, with really awesome 3rd person combat.

I am playing it right now for the first time thanks to GOG.
I chose knight and it does feel very similar to Dark Souls. It even starts similarly - in a cell (other characters have different opening levels though).
Combat is in some aspects more advanced than in Dark Souls, for example you can chop off limbs/heads and throw almost any object/weapon (yes, including limbs). The way blood is dynamically handled, and the realtime shadows and water reflections - all this is very impressive for its age.

On the other hand, the character animations/models leave a lot to be desired - especially compared to another 3rd person game of the same year, Max Payne.

Still, very good game. I am in the sixth mission now, just defeated a vampire who was the most difficult bastard so far.

Heard some buzz about this here recently. Might pick it up once I'm off work.

Worth noting for new Severance players that the Knight Sargon is a good character to begin with, lots of easily performed special moves and a good mix of defense and offense. The adventuress is too easy. The Barbarian takes a bit of getting used to, as his blows hit hard but take some time to wind up. The Dwarf is very hard to master but enormously satisfying once you've learned to use him as a counter puncher, you can when skilled do an entire runthrough without the enemy landing a single blow on you.

The world and lore are quite interesting too, based on Zoroastrian mythology with a lot of real world place and character names thrown around, slightly changed but recognisable if you're into history, especially around the cradle of civilisation.

They use Tolkien inspired themes too, like obviously hinting to Khuzdul in Dwarven names.

The trees of bone break and shatter, at the strike of my fierce foe bane.
Granite hedges about me echo with screams, and wash with wound wine.
Tyr's chosen son knows little of Loki's way, his heart is hard.
Stamping like Vidar, upon Hel's guests, I stride on.
Fresh honey to me is the sword shakers fury, and the cool of the arrow storm my bower.
Oceans stain on my brow, cooled by the Valkyries kiss.
