I've checked this thread and I don't know if there is a latest one. Also can you give me the list of the canon titles in chronological order?

Blood of Elves
Time of Contempt
Baptism of Fire
Tower of Swallows
Lady of the Lake

Something ends, something begins (non-canon)

Thanks, I started reading Sword of Destiny when I realized it's not the first part.

That's not so bad, The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny are largely a collection of short stories except for the end of Sword of Destiny. The real saga begins with Blood of Elves.

Not really. The Last Wish is important. The saga begins there. Wouldn't say more, because there are some severe spoilers.

Yeah, of course it is still important, but it isn't so bad that he read Sword of the Destiny before The Last Wish. Imagine he had read Time of Contempt before Blood of Elves, THAT would be bad luck :P

Are the last wish and blood elves are the only books officially translated to english? I don't fancy reading some butchered translations.

Yes, though followers states that they are stodgy compared to fan translation of the other books. I think being officially translated is the reason why I can't find those two books online to read :)

Apparently, i didn't read the fan translations as a whole, just parts of it to refresh my memory, but i couldn't criticize it for being "butchered".

Well, if you can speak another language besides english, you can probably get it in that language. The german and spanish series are complete, maybe french too, don't really know.

Are the fan translations not double translations??? From Polish -> French -> English??? That's what I meant by butchered. I've only read the last wish and you could tell some parts had lost some meaning in translation. I may just have to learn Polish to get full value and meaning from the books.

Don't know about that, you should ask the translator here, but The Last Wish is already (since 2007 according to wikipedia) official translated, so i guess you read the official version, so don't blame the fan translator for that :P
