I know this issue has come up before in other threads, but its still such a curiosity to me. The inability to name saves is not a HUGE deal, and didn't significantly impact my progress in Tw1 and 2. Yet still I wonder. Why can't we name saves?

Who sat down at the conference table discussing the early games' design documents and said,

'oh yeah that naming saves thing has got to go.'

I can almost understand its dis-inclusion from console games, though the option to override a default save-name with a little on-screen keyboard navigable via controller would be a fine solution.

Now amongst PC games there's just no excuse. What's the advantage of no named saves?

Do game devs think we enjoy tabbing out to explorer and manually re-labeling our save files at significant junctures?

It probably wouldn't rankle me so much except that it seems to be absolutely epidemic among releases these past few years.

I hope CDPR thinks about it for TW3 - there's no good reason Serious Sam 3 lets me name saves but The Witcher series, with its intricate plot and C&C junctures does not.

I agree. I would really like a save game scheme like in the Infinity Engine series (or many other game series for that matter). By this I mean a couple overwritable slots for Quicksaves, a couple cyclical overwritable Autosaves, and lots of individual manual saves that I can name and overwrite at will. Maybe then we won't suddenly have several gigs of saved games :P

PC does not equal Windows. Personal computers run many different operating systems, like GNU/Linux and, why not, Windows. PC games should be available for all major platforms. Let's not be handcuffed and tied to one vendor. Utilize standard, cross-platform technologies!

I'd much appreciate the ability to name saves. It was hard to keep track of them in TW2.

Damnit, my internet died on me just when I posted my, well, my post :P

What I wanted to add to this discussion is that it's a small feature that I appreciate but it's not the end of the world if they choose not to implement it in TW3. I'm borderline "I don't give a shit" about it. There are more important things for them to focus their resources on.

Yes please.

How am I supposed to know which save to import?
Now I did have separate save folders that are named so I know, but why all the hassle. Just let us name our saves.

This may be a bit too off topic, but here it goes...well, it does allow for organized saves anywayPosted Image
Would you guys grab your pitchforks and storm the fiends if they made a save system similar to Dark Souls, one that allowed imports but had just ONE slot for a particular play though. In this way, when things auto saved, such as after large decisions, you had to live with it. NO going backPosted Image.

And the saves are in a nice neat, package.

I would agree with you but just don't see how it would require a focusing of resources to let the player name a save. Its not a big feature, and the decline in allowing a player to type in a save name can't be attributed to a lack of developer resources...

I don't think that would be the best direction for a more traditionally structured game than Dark Souls. But it wouldn't require storming the fields, especially if we could view a summary of the major events in any given save block to remind us WTH we did.

Naming saves and SEEING THE PLAYTIME OF EACH ONE!
Neither Witcher game lets me see for how long I've played :(

I have no idea either mate. I'm no programmer, I just assume it's not that hard to enable us to name our saves but I don't know. And I agree, how much time and money does it take to add, what I assume is, a simple code? But like I said, I don't know.

Still, it's not that big a deal for me but if they did include the "feature" I'd very much appreciate it. I wouldn't cry my eye balls out if they didn't though.

Yes. If we'll be able to make differents choices and we must to save before do them it sould be a huge help to can naming the saves. If we must to go back to a saved game personally named instead a repeated standard-generated-location named game, we would enjoy it more.

Naming saves and an autoslot should be implemented. I can remember playing for just a ocuple of hours to find Witcher 2 had created dozens of autosaves which would make loading take forever.
