Nice interview, I don't like the comments regarding PC vs. Console though. CDPR used to always talk about how PC was their main development platform because they have always been PC gamers. Now it seems like they aren't as gung ho about that. Plus let's not kid ourselves, for the foreseeable future, PCs will always be more powerful than any console.

I hope every developer will have the same thinking as CDPR.

I don't understand- they don't want to exclude people who have consoles from playing their games. How does that make them less of a PC developer? Even PC gamers these days play on TVs and with game pads.

GOG has really nice user interface aswell. Viewing all game files as separate also one of great feature for me.

Adam's comment "Usually the weakest platform dictates the quality for all platforms" is a key point. I think that's why they've been PC-centric in the past. Only the PC had enough hamsters turning the wheel to get the quality they wanted.

This will no longer be so with next-generation consoles. Next-generation consoles will have parity with mid-range gaming PCs and with PC/controller/TV setups. It means that they believe they will not have to compromise their creativity to produce ambitious multi-platform games.

I agree and to me, this reads more like a "now we can at least release our games with acceptable quality in consoles too" instead of "now the consoles and PC version of our games will be the same"

I hope that we will see more independent medium-big developers with their philosophy. They make games that have good balance between indie's creativity and big publisher's quality/size.
If you see a grammar mistake in my post, then I don't mind if you send me a notice about it via PM. I always want to improve my English grammar.

Here is a golden quote:

Quote

Adam Badowski: I think the Steambox will be awesome. Because Valve is a digital platform holder, the final contact with the customer will be as easy as possible. That's why we're looking forward to it. We're in contact with Steam, so we're going to be engaged in the process.

It means they are "looking forward" to creating Linux ports of their games, since Steambox intends to be fully Linux based. Awesome. And if they truly try to maximise on each platform, it means we should expect OpenGL 4.

They've clearly backed away from being PC first in their rhetoric. For TW2, they unambiguously touted PC as the lead platform, and that they were a PC dev. Now they are much more careful with their words. What Badowski says about PC potentially not being the most powerful platform in the future....what? PC tech evolves constantly and allows players to upgrade, while consoles are a closed deal. Their tech will only age and become more dated each year.

I agree, this sounds disingenuous. No consoles will ever be more powerful than PC which is open for upgrades. Unless by consoles they mean super computer clusters ;)

and this pattern has existed as long as consoles where the new generation of consoles gets close to PC and then within a few years PC blows it away again. They should know this. Sure the first couple generations of games may be closer but PC hardware will continue to advance while consoles will stagnate.

The Cyberpunk trailer was very provocative and came at a time when people were questioning the portrayal and role of female game characters - was it an intentionally controversial piece of advertising?

Adam Badowski: I think some people overreacted - we had long discussions about the roles of the female characters. We have women in our writing team, so we had both sides and directions to the discussion. It's not a part of our marketing strategy. I think the female character in the teaser is a strong character - she's not just a girl. We'll probably show that later on in our next teasers and trailers.

This kind of sends warning bells, oh, some (idiot) groups complained the trailer scene was dehumanizing women (WTF?!?!), so now the next trailer will have "strong" female character. Now, if that was their intention from the beginning then great and nothing to see, however I hope this is not in response to that and that they plan to change the game to avoid controversy or slowly falling into making the game into politically corrects BS to avoid controversy. I do not want to see CDP fall into that cess pool that so many other game devs/publishers have fallen into.

Hopefully this is just paranoia from all the great game companies that used to not care what people think and created great games pushing the envelope, to the shells of their former selves, spitting out "safe" generic games. Seen it way too many times.

Everything else was pretty good in the interview, although I did wince when they implied that PC was not the lead platform.

so now the next trailer will have "strong" female character.

Well I get the feel that it was their intention all along. I mean the teaser ends with her joining the police force so we'll see.

I do think "feminism" with regards to video game representation is a lot of horseshit.
