TW2 combat relied too heavily on PLAYER skill. This is a RPG, after all. It should rely on CHARACTER skill. Voted for TW1 combat.

Combat system type in Witcher 3

I for one am very happy the combat system as used in TW2, loved the rolling, etc.
For those wanting some kind of timed system, no way in hell! It sounds good and those people think that they are "uber" players but believe me, they will be the first ones to complain on how "screwy" the combat system is and if the timed system uses ques (like in the boxing games) people will complain that that its too easy.
Bottom line, people will complain no matter what, have to go with the majority and for me, the combat system in TW2 was fine. Most boss fights took me many tries to get it right and that's the way it should be!
If someone wants a "fighting game" I don't think a RPG is it.

The Witcher 2 combat system, despite it's flaws, was extremely satisfying and fun for me. In the Witcher 1 you could be half asleep while fighting since all you needed to do was use the mouse and time the clicks. In W2 you had to remain alert and always run around, use signs, dodge, and time your hits. I say they should polish and revamp it. ›››
I couldn't agree more. I was utterly, hopeless bored with TW1 combat system. It was so dull, I almost gave up on the game. I don't get how OP said that TW2 combat system is typical for RPGs, I absolutely disagree. No, it doesn't compare to the dullness of Skyrim. TW2 had by far the best combat system I've seen in an RPG yet (no, I have not played Dark Souls).
I would be absolutely content if they kept the same system from TW2, I am not bothered by the dodging, I actually rather enjoyed it.

I do hope they allow for cursordriven combat (and movement) more akin to The Witcher 1 than The Witcher 2. While passable, I never liked the combat in TW2.
If that's completely out of the question... for shame. I'd then think they should look at what PB did with melee combat in Risen (1) and take some cues from it.

Alot of this depends on what kind of enemies we want to see
I have played Demons Souls as far as sword combat goes that game is near perfect but the Witcher isn't Demons/Dark Souls and therefore Geralt will always have way more options to defeat enemies.
For example my first run of TW2 was in Dark Difficulty and i just couldn't figure out Vendergrifts weakness so what did i do
I used 17 snares on different spots and just kept rolling till he would step on them and then rearm them . This is something i didn't have in Demons Souls and thats why the Boss mechanics in that game are different from the Boss mechanics in Witcher. Combat systems also directly influence the enemy mechanics as well.

No, just NO! There are PLENTY of RPGs where it's all about character skill and their combat is mindless boring. TW2 combat was FUN. Yes there was some reliance on player skill but that's not a crime, it's a benefit.

There are also a plethora of RPG's that have manual twitch combat that has little to no regard for character skill (nigh every RPG made these days).
