Hey all, you sure know how frequently people complain about Geralt's hair not being animated realistically enough. Well - it seems the answer to this is just around the corner :D

TressFX seems to be part of the new tomb raider. Apparently there's more information on this tomorrow :)

I must be the only person who didn't care about Geralt's hair :P During regular gameplay I'm watching where I'm going rather than watching Geralt himself, and during cutscenes the camera mainly shows his face.

But if this new software can render hair more realistically without a big performance hit then I'm all for it :D Does it work for nVidia cards as well?

I have no idea ;)
But it is to be feared that this is another proprietary solution...

Pfft, Henselt... Think about the dwarves!

Anyway, I seriously hope they don't restrict this to Radeons.

For tomb raider I'm almost sure it will be radeon-only.
Although... when I think about it, there's also AMD's Forward+ rendering in Dirt Shodown, which is available on both Radeons and Geforces - only it runs crappy on Geforces, which is why the game is also known as Dirt: Slowdown ^^
Could be that it's the same with "TressFX".

Even if other characters use this technology, I'm sure Letho will still be beautiful ^_^ :P

I thought W2 was one of the first games to get hair right.

Speaking as someone with lone hair, I agree. With all that bouncing, I tie it up with a bandanna when I run. Still bounces though. It can be absolutely maddening sometimes.

I've watched the Tomb Raider footage we have already for the game, and I am not impressed by how Lara's hair looks there.

Don't you just hate it when you're hanging upside-down and your long bangs are glued to your face?

I like the way her ponytail moves/blows in the wind, but they forgot to animate the rest of her hair :I

I'm not sure if it was on the trailers, because I doubt that they will use this technology on consoles.

It will probably be in the pre-rendered movies, like in the beginning when she falls into water. You can see her hair floating.

To be honest in quite a few scenes I actually don't like her ponytail, it just has some weird animations. It looks nice in others though.

I think the info-page is now live: http://blogs.amd.com/play/tressfx/

Here's a direct comparison:

Looks good, although a bit artificial, imo.

Now that is actually impressive. CDPR take note. I do hope it will run on Nvidia cards as well.
