Just out of curiosity, do we know if the mage killed by Letho in the introduction of the game was a known one or just a generic character?

I mean, in the books we know that Kind Demawend had Radcliffe in his court as mage advisor, and he's one of the few mages not killed in the Thanedd coup (as well as Philippa, Sabrina and Dethmold), so it could have been him.

I suppose it's really impossible to know, and probably it's just a generic mage, but even so, who knows~

‘Maybe, I don’t know. It was hot... The ceiling collapsed. Spells and arrows... a massacre...
Among them Fercart was killed, among us Drithelm was killed, Radcliffe was killed,
Marquard was killed, Rejean and Bianca d’Este...

'What I thought -said Triss-. Yennefer started by obtaining the secret report of the Radcliffe Committee, which investigated the Thanedd affair. (From "The Tower of the Swallow")

As far as I know, it was said that he died during the coup, but later he was well alive and led the investigation of traces of teleportation from Thanedd. Although of course, maybe the committee just had Radcliffe's name as honorific, but in that case, why his name and not others?

But did he lead the commission? Just his name was mentioned not the person.

I don't know why his name, can't remember that he was such an important person.

Well, I've been looking for him in the books and maybe the committee was named after him since he was a member of the Council, sided with the northern kingdoms during the coup and (supposedly) died. Although in that case, a better name for the committee would have been that of Hen Gedymdeith =P anyway~ thanks, you're probably right and he just died.

Yeah, his name would have been better, wasn't he one of the oldest or even the oldest sorcerer alive until then?

I wouldn't worry about that mage in that intro, probably some unknown sorcerer just there to be killed. If Demavend hadn't have a sorcerer at his side, it would be more questionable.

THe mage killed by Letho in the introduction of Witcher 2 is known internally in CDPRed as Abelard of Hagge (I dont think his name come up in-game at any point).
Although it is not clear if he's Demawend's private councillor or just a trip-guest, I would think on the first option, given his professional and swift -almost succesful- response to the ambush. :)/>/>/>

Well, he needed an replacement, Yennefer was also once part of his council, but good to know he was not just an unknown sorcerer, even though that's it.
