Hi all,

new here, love the game series and am currently reading the books. So far, I've read The last Wish and am working my way through Sword of Destiny. My current thought..am i the only one that freaking hates Yennefer? maybe I'm not far enough into the reading yet..but so far...I'd like to high five her in the face with a chair. Does this feeling eventually change? Or is that the norm throughout the series?

Thanks for all replies and opinions!

Later in the books he is more likable. But yeah, I generally didn't like her that much, but somehow I think that she will be more interesting in TW3 than she was in the books.
If you see a grammar mistake in my post, then I don't mind if you send me a notice about it via PM. I always want to improve my English grammar.

 Yeah, she's like that, mostly. Later she'll get better... a little.

Okay, I must not have gotten that far yet. I've been sitting here reading all night and just..mad at her. I know that she is Geralts true love and all that but with the golden dragon..and then with the wizard in the elven town. I just want to kill her :P

Hopefully my opinion will change later. Also maybe it's because I played the games first and drew a liking to Triss..hrm.

Hi and welcome! Hope you're enjoying your reading ^^

About Yennefer: it's not that easy as you think, things are much more complicated. Please refer to this thread (WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!) http://en.thewitcher...-choice-in-tw3/

As long as you finish to read The Sword of Destiny too, the sketch of Geralt and Yen will start to get clearer.

I fully intend on reading all of them. I am very much enjoying my time on the forum so far, thank you. I'm about halfway through Sword of Destiny as we speak. But work is almost over and I must go home and sleep :P

Just wait until Geralt does
both are no angels in that matter :P

Yeah, your opinion will definitely change, also about Triss.

I read the books and told my wife about them. She is in excatly the same place in the books that you are and she doesn't like Yennifer either. I don't know if you'll like her in the end but, to me, her relationship with the people and world around her gets interesting later on.

Sapkowski has a way of writing similar to Robert Jordan. Sometimes you want to just..."Arghhhh!"

I love Yennifer. She is wonderful. Geralt can be a bit pig-headed at times, well they both can. O yen...I had a lump in my throat when I read this:

I feel she's snobby in the beginning and I couldn't find why he liked her other then the fact its a very pretty girl who is mysterious. For her part I can't see why she likes him the ladies seem drawn to the scars, red eyes, and basic gruff manor of the Witchers in general and maybe its just me but I can't see why those are qualifications for a girl like Yen muchless the other sorceresses. I never considered Garlt to be a good looking man and his near pauper status should turn off Yen who likes money. Either way it is what it is he's obsessed and she's an off and on type of obsession over him that peeks and wanes constantly.

There are times when Yen is like a roommate with him other times she's a lover sweet and kind, then she has the manipulation she's either actively employing or sometimes she's being used and then uses him all w/o knowing it.

While this is touching I as a player/reader find it very sad that they could only be wed or stand each other in death thats a terrible message to send only in death can you put your "me first" attitude on hold to love someone? Its cute but terrible message wise and I also don't like how Ciri seems so aloft at this time she doesn't want to be active in their lives though they've always wanted her to be in their lives.

As I read I'm finding more reasons not to like, trust, or love Triss, Yen over times changes for the better Triss she's lost occasionally doing good for her lodge or order or someone but she does bad towards Garalt and the world as a whole at other points I don't know where she's going but considering all the lies, misinformation, and basic using she's doing towards Garalt in game its not looking bright for her on the evil vs good scale.

Sapkowski definitely created a more realistic woman rather than a Yen that follows Geralt like a blind lover

They're both torn between their worlds

Yeneffer has her duties with the lodge and her own ambition as a sorcerress
while Geralt is a witcher who kills monsters

Yen knows Geralt is in danger of death everytime he goes to work and how the employers don't really give a shit about witchers, in fact they'll try to screw him over any chance they got. Just imagine the stress she goes through.

Geralt is the "incomplete" witcher who could love. On one hand, his entire society tells him that he shouldn't and yet his emotions for her can't lie. At the same time, his white hair and kitty eyes brings trouble on every corner

Then Ciri comes along,
both Yen and Geralt centers their life around the child of destiny

She becomes a mother figure, protecting her even if she has to go against the lodge
and Geralt slows his career down, trying to see if a witcher can truly settle down and have a normal life

It's really a good relationship story, in my opinion

What version of the book did you read? There was nothing of that in the spanish translation. Nor anywhere where it would fit in the narration of that moment.

That's also new for me and i read the german version and the english fan translation. I had the feeling that she accepted her fate to have no own children, well, she got Ciri.

How Yennefer changes/lets go of her initial facades later in the books are already mentioned so I just want to add a maybe different pov here. I actually never had any problems with Yennefer. (Not even in the 'Shard of Ice' which revealed very interesting characteristics about Geralt too and I was more interested in that.) Because she was introduced through Geralt's eyes, his thoughts and feelings. And since I found the books very engaging, when I read from someone's POV I tend to let go and walk in theirs shoes. Which means when I read from Geralt's POV, I am Geralt. If he says the woman is beautiful, then I believe she's beautiful. If he's in love with her, *I'm* in love with her. This is Geralt, his choice and no matter how painful it becomes, he still manages to not see or unsee her faults/shortcomings and goes back to her. So, I don't judge.

Although this is an enthusiastic reader's experience with the books. My feelings about the characters come from whoever other character's POV I'm getting to know them from. Does not mean these characters can not be discussed in a neutral way, of course. Especially with games that require your input about a character's life. I just think all these Yennefer discussions I see might have to do with coming directly from games where the very purpose is to allow you to judge and shape that world. While in the books, you have no say. Anyone who read the books first like to deny/confirm? I'm curious.

As someone who hasn't read the books and only know of Yennefer through the games, it's interesting to see a bit of who she is and what her and Geralts relationship is like. It's gonna be cool as hell finally meeting here. I wonder what'll happen.
Tearing my hair out, trying to figure out why there aren't any non-human Witchers, or at least something equivalent to a Witcher oriented warrior.
