New video about the Monster Hunting and Quests.

Quote

As the protagonist of The Witcher series, one of Geralt of Rivia's defining characteristics is also his profession: monster hunting. While the team at CD Projekt RED touch on this mechanic in past entries, tracking and killing creatures for a bounty is one of the pillars of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Watch the video below to hear gameplay designers Maciej Szczesnik and Marvin So explain how the new system will work and why they think it will help immerse players in Geralt's world.

This is just too good to be true, almost exactly what I wished for in the other thread about TW3 side quests! :w00t:

Merged the 2 topics.

And that video is awesome. I like how they are planning to use monster hunting as integral mechanic driving the open world, rather than something just thrown in as a side dish.

A skinny Asian guy with a bass voice and Polish accent. Now I've seen everything. ;D

That mechanic sounds intriguing. I like doing research and extended preparation. But I hope they get the balancing right - it either has to be very hard to find many/all clues about a monster to make the fight easy, or the fight has to be challenging with complete preparation and near-impossible without it.
If preparation makes fights trivial, that's definitely the wrong way to go.
But the theory of it sounds just great. I hope the research is somewhat like the first chapter of TW1 - that was just fantastic!
Here's hoping for relatively few of these high quality side quests instead of tons of meaningless tasks.

For me they can make the fights with major monsters near-impossible without preparation and only a little bit easier with Geralt completely prepared, considering there will be a chance to insta-kill a monster if we know how.

It all sounds fantastic. I like that they really seem to realise a lot of their failures from TW2, and fix them.

What I find interesting though is this artwork, it sure does look like a big and crowded city like Wyzima.

I wonder how the "targeting" of special points of the monster's anatomy (in the video they had the example of a poison gland) could work, since you don't exactly target you blows to hit areas in TW2's fighting system. Targeting sounds like Fallout's VATS to me, which of course I can't imagine in The Witcher.

Considering that we see docks on this picture I assume it's Novigrad.
If you see a grammar mistake in my post, then I don't mind if you send me a notice about it via PM. I always want to improve my English grammar.

They mentioned something they internally call "focus mode". So maybe you can slow down time in combat for a short period and then aim at specific points of monster's body. Or something similar.

I like the illustration, but it's a really weird choice for the video. They talk about monster hunting but show a city scene with a prominently featured brothel.

Misogyny!

This all sounds fucking amazing. I really hope CDPR is gonna make the focus mode feel good where we kind of zoom in and have the ability to slash specific body parts based on our research!
