Hi everybody!

Hope you'll find a solution to my very annoying issue.
Before posting this new topic, I searched for an existing one. I found some of them apparently having the same problem as mine, but no suggested solution helps.
This weekend, I installed the DVD version (not Steam) of The Witcher 2. Nothing wrong happened during installation process. At the end, launcher asked me for the serial number. I entered it. No problem. After that, the launcher downloaded the different patchs (pre-EE), then the big Enhanced Edition patch, then patch 3.1, 3.2, etc.
I restarted Windows (XP SP3 version 32 bits) as requested, and tried to start the game with the launcher. Then, Geralt's medallion pops in the center of my screen, and... nothing happens. :( Process is still running anyway, I had to kill it manually with a process explorer. So, I read some topics, and tried everything: turned off my antivirus (NOD32), turned off my firewall, unplug the network cable, clean uninstalling the game (deleting installation folder), then manually installing every patch from 1.35 until 3.2 manually, then trying to run the game with the bin/.exe (not the launcher), nothing helps. However, the manual install made me notice that the trouble happens as soon as I installed Enhanced Edition (the game starts correctly until patch 2.1). I updated my video drivers, what else? uninstalling then reinstalling .NET framework 4, starting with windowed mode, lowest graphic settings... nothing. When I launch the /bin/.exe, Windows sand timer is displayed one second, and that's over, nothing happens.

I could play the game without Enhanced Edition, but I think that would really be a pity. If the game starts without EE installed, there is probably a way to make it work with EE installed... Please help me! I'm running out of brilliant ideas...

My configuration: Windows XP SP3 32 bits, ATI HD4870, Core 2 Quad Q6700, 3GB+ memory

I'd suggest you redeem your CD key at GOG: http://www.gog.com/witcher2/backup

It's up to date as well as 100% DRM-free. If you're not willing to wait that long to download 16 GB of data, I guess you can only wait until someone gives you a better response.

You may want try and run the program as the administrator and see if that works.

OK ! Thanks for your help hashim.
I'll try the "GOG way" this evening, and will keep you posted.
About the administrator rights, I think I already am (single user account on Windows XP)

Same problem with GOG... No problem during download and installation, but launcher (or bin/exe) does not respond like DVD version. No luck :( :(
Any other idea please ?

The first thing I would try is making sure that the game has the required registry entries by following the link . It says Steam but works for all versions of the game . Just download and run the registry fix . Be sure and point it to your witcher 2 installation .

If that doesn`t work then you can try the hotfix . Just be sure and read the 1st post completely .

Thanks Tommy. I remember having read this, but I thought it was Steam specific. I'll try the registry fix, then the hotfix if it doesn't work.
I'll keep you posted.

And finally... it works !! :) Thanks Tommy !
Actually, when I started the launcher, it asked me to install brand new patch 3.3. But this one doesn't fix the problem.
Registry fix has no effect either, but, the hotfix did the job... at last! ;) (Strangely, I missed that option before posting my topic...)

Bad surprise anyway, I noticed that, even in lowest graphic details, the game lacks of FPS on my configuration... Quite surprising, knowing that Witcher 1 runs smoothly in high detais... Too bad!

Thanks for your help hashim and Tommy!

The 4850 should be good for I would say medium specs but no more . If you`re trying to play in full HD that probably won`t happen . Try instead a reduced resolution of 1280 x 720 to see if FPS increases it enough .
