Run/Sprint fuction for Witcher 3?
19.02.2013 @ 21:33 #1
In Witcher 2 I upgraded my roll distance and used that all the time to travel because it was a lot faster, but from what we've been told so far, there is no rolling in Witcher 3, so do you think they should implement a run/sprint function? If so, what how should it work? limited/unlimited etc.
EDIT - I should mention this is for exploration, not combat. Seeing as how the world is a lot larger now, Geralt's 'jog' won't suffice.

Yeah, but that's about the combat stance. I think the topic is about an exploration-running kind of sprint. Personally, I'm against it, as said above there will be horses for long distances, and for short ones, The Witcher 2 speed is good enough for me. Actually, I never even thought of rolling around because it was faster, I preferred to enjoy the environment's atmosphere every time.

Actually, my Geralt walked all the time and I activated running ONLY during the difficult combat. It feels so much better and bad ass when you walk around, don't rush, keep cool, slowly approach the enemy and draw your sword then turn on running and swiftly dispatch them... and walk away.
It was also annoying that after some dialogues the game forgets that you were in the walking mode. :/ So, I'd like to have always walking with a button to hold for running and/or sprinting that drains stamina.

Although I applaud you for playing the game the way you want to, I doubt most other players play the same.

I'd like Geralt to have a gradual walk-to-run acceleration, rather than a clean cut walk/run. It would look more natural.

I don't want a "sprint" function TW3. Seems pointless as all hell. Waste of a button.
I'm pretty indifferent about it though. If RED decides to implement it, then fine. Fine by me. It's just feels obsolete, considering there's fast travel, boats AND horses to help you move around.

Tearing my hair out, trying to figure out why there aren't any non-human Witchers, or at least something equivalent to a Witcher oriented warrior.

I know, I don't suggest that everyone should walk. I also didn't understand how good the walking feels till I seriously tried it. But if it will be, let's say, an option of the hardcore mode it would be great.

but we have soo many buttons! do we even use Shift,Alt, Spacebar and Ctrl in W2.
I think there should be a sprint just so we could have a running jump to get over perilous ledges. We should also have a jumping/downward slash it added a lot to Dark Souls boss combat not to mention it looks awesome.
We could even have stuff like this where Geralt climbs nearby objects to be able to do the jumping attack like this,

If i'm correct they already mentioned this in one of the GI videos that technically in TW2 we were always running so we will see this in TW3. I personally dream for more good character control like in AC or in the Batman Arkham games.

Geralt does look incredibly cool when he walks. Women swoon, Men sit up straighter, and Nekkers think twice before approaching. That shoulder movement is just awesome.
We all might be looking for a sprint function if a Manticore decides Roach would make a great and balanced breakfast.

Took the words right out of my mouth clapping Jocker. Looks like we may get a combat feel more like this in TW3 with the "no running" thing during combat (I think they said that).

Sorry double post
When I saw AC I thought Arkham City, not Assassins creed. I agree, I hate that ledge, jumping, do evetything for me nonsense. AC3 tutorial was brutal for me (probably a bit of an overstatement
) because I kept trying to jump and climp manually. I didn't like the work being done for me.
Love Batman combat. Walking cooly, punching, kicking, slamming, nut crunching bad assery. Ahhh...good times.

I don't like their magnetic ledges mechanic. It hold the players hand too much.

Batman Arkham City had a weird floaty feeling to how Batman jumped. He didn't need to sprint to jump at maximum distance on the press of button. He didn't even have to bend his knees before the animation took effect.
It was fun flying around that game though and yeah the combat was nice.

Wasn't the combat there like in Assassin Creed where enemies attack you strictly one at a time and wait their turn to die? That way you can walk all you want knowing nobody is attacking you from behind.
I haven't played it, that's what I've heard. I would strongly prefer enemies taking advantage to back stab.
