I played some Valve games (like Half Life), but I don't use Steam out of dislike to any DRM. I can't say they were the most influential in the gaming industry. Id Software was much more, with their breakthrough into 3D shooters back in the day.

Regarding TW2 on Xbox. Unfortunately CDPR additional focus on consoles caused drawbacks in the gaming interface, which were partially addressed in subsequent patches and releases, but only partially. In general, TW1 had an interface designed purely for PC controls, while TW2 made compromises in direction of consolization, which made things worse. I hope they won't repeat this mistake in the Witcher 3, though it's not a trivial task to design the interface to be rich and comprehensive on PC, while at the same time having a fallback mode on consoles to work well with reduced controls.

It's interesting how this thread degenerated into a hate thread for Valve...

Anyway, yeah bro. Absolutely agree. I have kind of a funny story regarding how I found the Witcher ^^ I bought the first game around the time of its release but my PC at the time sucked so much, I couldn't play it! So, I put it on the shelves and thought: "fuck it. Someday."

I upgraded my computer about 3 years later, didn't even think about the Witcher. I remember seeing the first trailers for The Witcher 2, didn't give a shit. The series wasn't even in my mind. I'd given up. I was still a bit pissed that I couldn't play a brand new game, that grudge dismissed the Witcher completely! I bought the second game and decided, fuck it! Now's the time. So I installed the first game, completed it, installed the second, completed it, and now as a result, the Witcher 2 is one of my favourite games of all time and CDPR is one of my favourite video game developers of all time!

So kudos RED, for creating an amazing experience both inside and outside the game! :D
Tearing my hair out, trying to figure out why there aren't any non-human Witchers, or at least something equivalent to a Witcher oriented warrior.

Share your Skyrim characters here! Feel free to post pictures, tell a story, or whatever! It's all about dem adventures boios!

Oh and Red Dead Redemption was another brilliant game which if i remember PC gamers never got to play?

I have never owned a console. This fact makes me sad. I wanted to be a cowboy Posted Image .

In light of the good cheer of the thread and Foggie's post, I too have a somewhat odd Witcher tale I feel is appropriate for this thread.

I started playing games about a year and a half ago. Sierra's the Hobbit was my first....Mhmmm...memories. Then I picked up Oblivion, and later, Skyrim. Of course I had to do that register with Steam crap. But my did Steam amaze me. All these games! Even old ones! And the prices!

I wanted to role play, but I got tired of having to do all if Skyrims work for it. Don't ask me why, but I remembered an old trailer for The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf. I guess it was just one of those things that sticks with you.

I'll call it destiny Posted Image.

Using to Valve Store I was forced to get for Skyrim, BEHOLD! The Witcher for two dollars U.S. on STEAM!

Interesting, I never saw this video. Why wasn't it in the game?

It was a trailer/teaser for an xbox 360/ps3 version of the original game. All I know about it is from Wikipedia, under the heading Console Version found here. If the information is accurate, threads like these might have sprung up long ago and included the good people of the playstation 3.

Sometimes I wonder if the folks at RED secretly play Rise of the White Wolf and show it to others at fancy witcher parties Posted Image

The quality of PC gaming would go down the toilet if Valve threw in the towel.

It's not a side-scroller, if that's what you mean. You can get nerdy about the definitions if you want, but if you're playing a character in a setting, then you're role-playing to an extent.

But yeah OP, it's DMC-like hack/slash. ›››

Most action-adventure games play like hybrid RPGs nowadays (exploring the world to advance, xp for character development), so even if a RPG fan picks up and plays C:LoS, they will not be disappointed. ›››

Because the port got outsourced to french studio Widescreen Games, who failed to deliver.

Speaking of failed Witcher projects, there was also an expansion planned for TW1, called Outcast.

Here's the design doc.

It was supposed to be set in Skellige, so I wonder if any of that might find its way to TW3.

CDPR are awesome, becouse they give us free content after we buy the game, they listen to our feedback, they make the games they want to make,no appeal to wider audience, they care for the game and love making it,not just making a game for a cash grab but with passion. The witcher series is amazing, the combat and preparation system is fresh and unique and the story is Legen, wait for it,wait for it,dary.

I appreciate both of yours perspectives, Reptile and Sirnaq, I get the same way about literature (damn, you nerdy tendencies!). There's nothing wrong with being that way, and I don't claim to have an extensive knowledge about games. If you feel like you can tell me something useful, feel free. We're not trolling or arguing, and if you're bored as well I'll start a thread in Community about RPGs.

I wouldn't mind reading into some of that Posted Image

This has certainly been an interesting thread. Since getting into video game "culture" I guess, its cool to see how people support developers, like, say, a professional sport franchise. Valve is as foreign to me is it is to the OP.

I had no idea there was talk of a Witcher Expansion. Thanks for the document man, that was really awesome :D
