Hello, I was going to run through TW2 since playing it when it came out, now with all the EE and things.

Previously I played the game on a 5850 but since then I have a new computer that uses a 580gtx/2600k/8gb ram.

I'm running the newest nvidia drivers (310.90) and recently cleaned out my case, I have decent airflow (H100 watercooler for cpu, a few Gentle Typhoons blowing in and some good exhaust to push it out).

When running TW2 my gpu goes to 99% and it generally stays there. This causes my gpu to become extremely hot and thus the fan kicks in and it gets loooud, and I hate loud noises in my computer (hence the Gentle typhoons and things).

I have even tried turning down some graphic settings, ubersampling off, DOF, Bloom, AA, Blur, etc and it still goes to around 99% and stays there.

This is the only game that does that to my gpu, recent titles like Far Cry 3 I can play maxxed and it doesn't get nearly as hout/loud as it does when playing TW2.

I also have vsync on (to lock the frames to 60, so it's not pushing it high that way like I thought it might have been at first).

I'm wondering if this ist he norm for TW2? I don't remember having it be like this on my 5850 when it came out.

TW2 will drive any single GPU at a continuous 98-99%. This is normal behavior for this engine. nVidia GPUs tend to run hot, and the 580 is notorious for it, so yeah, you get the GPU cooler running at 100%.

The 5850 runs almost 100 watts cooler: 151W TDP vs. 244W for the GTX 580, more if it's overclocked.

You could try undervolting your card (a little advanced, but not too frightening ;) ), this reduces the power consumption and therefore the amount of heat the card produces. But of course this may lead to instabilities (crashing, but no actual damage will be done to your card or your system) - you'd have to test it out in small steps, and expect no wonders...
The probably best solution would be a good aftermarket cooler to keep your hotheaded 580 nicely quiet - this here is one of the best cooling solutions out there: http://www.arctic.ac...html?L=1&c=2182

Thank you both for your suggestions.

I actually ended up playing more and it seems to me that it's a problem with the tutorial area? I don't remember playing that part of the game before (perhaps it wasn't in tilt he EE?) and it seemed that once I was out of there my gpu usage went down, generally hovers around 60% usage(I get 60fps with everyone high but no ubersampling) and my fan only goes up to about 55% instead of the 80% it was getting there.
