from what I heard, there are no proper translations in either english or german, which is why I haven't bothered. is this still the case? (mind it I'm very picky when it comes to translations, which is why I rather read a book in the original language even when my command at it is less than at a given translation ... but I unfortunately can't read polish :wallbash:/>/> )

We have threads dedicated to the books in our Community section :)

- Fan translations
- Where to buy (in all languages)

Hope you can find the info you need there.

Be patient :) I heard rumors of official translations, and personally I can't wait for them.

There are German translations of all the books IIRC.

huh? I have all 8 books in german and i couldn't complain about the translation.

I also read some excerpts from the english fan translations and i didn't have the impression they were bad.

Well I understand your concern. I'm no german native speaker, but I know that the whole series has been translated into german. Can't say how good it is unfortunately.

As for the english translation: UK-US readers said that it's very accurated. Best adaptation from Polish. The translator Danusia Stok is a polish herself. Unfortunately only two books has been translated so far, even tho a third book (Times of Contempt) is expected within this year.

In our forum we're hosting english fan translations of the whole series. "Fan" desn't mean sketchy or not accurated. As far as I know, they've been made by polish-english speaking members and professional translators.

One more note: all the translators agree on the fact that translating Sapkowski into another language is quite challanging, because of the flourish language and syntax he used. So every translations no matter how good it is, won't ever been like the original.

thanks all.

unfortunately fan translations are no good for me, I like physical books I can carry around :)

and I'm not saying sapkowski's book translations are terrible per se, but that's what I've read all over the place.

@secondchildren, thanks - translating is always a fine line, be it comics, books, whatever. Which is why I try to read in the original language whenever possible. I'll look for the english ones, read the first book and see if it "flows". thanks again all.

A little OT, but I was wondering if the publisher really is not going to translate "the real" second book, "The Sword of Destiny". Even after they apparently lost readers and good ratings because of disconnections between the books. Is there any news about this?
