PM Well, I got the sword from the lady of the lake. Got back and spoke with Rayla, went to the village and decided to have it out with the elves. Alvin vanished. And now all the non-humans are dead (humans too come to think of it), all except one dwarf. I've fought him for 45 minutes. Even though it says I'm hitting him he retains a sliver of life no matter what.
Is this a glitch or am I missing something?

It definitely sounds like a glitch. Have you tried reloading from the last save?

Yes, it was indeed a glitch. But I had to leave the game entirely to fix it. When I went back to the fight - no problem.
Btw, Geralt has earned the title "Wutcher" around our house. We watched a PBS program in which a 5 year old girl was afraid of the old lady next door, "I don't want to see the Wutch!" So now it's 'Wutcher' at our house.
