Would anyone have a reference for motherboard beep and debug codes (for an MSI motherboard/Award BIOS)? My computer decided to stop booting tonight and all I get is one long + two short beeps and the debug code D6.

As far as I can figure it out it points out to the video card being dead, but if someone has a better idea, I'd appreciate a hint.

Different motherboards come with different beep codes, search for the beep codes for your specific motherboard model.

The well-known Award codes have been kept consistent for a long time. Long-short-short is a video adapter error, and a D6 code is "no console". These point to a problem with your video card, but not to any specific problem with it.

Try the easy things first: reconnect your video cable, open the case and reseat the video card and its auxiliary power connectors (if it has any). Clean the cooler on the card. Try a different video card if you have a spare.

Thanks. MSI is strangely reluctant to provide the full listing.

I did all the things that Guy suggested, still no joy. Don't have a spare lying around unfortunately.

It was the graphics card. Put in a new one and it works.

Glad it was that simple. Sorry you had to replace an expensive component.

It was a three year old Radeon HD 5850. Ready to be replaced anyway. Plus there's always something on sale on newegg.com
