Hello all, I have come here because I ran out of ways to try and fix the game.

Windows XP, Quad 2.4, GTX 660ti and 4gb ram are my specs.
I've downloaded the game straight from gog recently and installed it as the adminstrator, then let the launcher update it.

When I "launch" the game, all that happens is the witcher logo shows up and it stays there hanging and the game never loads. (When fully updated to 3.2)

**UPDATE**

I came back here to give this thread an update incase anyone has the same problem. Here's how I fixed it and another option I dind't have to do, but will include as I heard it can help.

Solution 1 (try this first):
Download game from GOG and after installing let the launcher update it to 3.1 then launch the game.

Solution 2:
I downloaded the patches for manual installation (this will update your old CD version to the Enhanced Edition) straight from this website and I checked if the MD5 codes match the ones in the thread about it. Once I did that I let the patcher that came with the downloads patch the game, not the launcher.
When you open the launcher, let it go trough with update 3.1 and the launcher will re-start. After patch 3.1 is installed, launch the game and it should work now. It worked for me.

Notice for Solution 2:
I installed the game from my original CD's, then I patched it from the patches that I have downloaded from this site (I dind't let the launcher patch it) and only then did the launcher prompt to ask to install patch 3.1, after that I ignored the 3.2 patch and launched it running 3.1.

Other solutions:
Disable your internet connection then initiate the launcher and play.
Read Tommy's comments below.

Time to finally start the game, gg!

Be sure and give the launcher and or witcher2 exe exceptions in your firewall I use Vista and on every new install of Witcher 2 the firewall will block the launcher from starting until I give it permission . Also try the witcher2 exe from the witcher 2/bin folder .

It's not the firewall I double checked, also when I click the witcher2.exe in /bin nothing happens, at all. Hardly a sandicon.

Really don't understand how I can't seem to find much about this particular problem as the files come straight from gog.

Has nobody had a problem exactly like this before? When you launch the game, a small popup comes up with the launcher in your hidden icons and the logo pops up and it just sits there forever, not loading anything?

When installing did it go through 2 verification processes ? You could try reinstalling and try running the game before any patches are installed .

First it checks for file integrity, then it proceeds to install. One thing I have to note though is it's taking a very long time to install the game but uninstalling it takes like 3 seconds, never quite understood how that's possible.

It never asks me for anything, my code, nothing. And I've done a new download straight from gog and installing it again but it seems it won't have any use. I'll try and play it before the launcher asks to install patches but I'm pretty sure I tryd that a few times with no result...

I decided to delete all my witcher 2 install files from my docs/gog.com downloader, in the case that perhaps there was something corrupt or they did an update since a few months ago. It's going to take a while because the download is 15gig but I'll re-install it from that download in the hope there was smthing wrong with my previous installer.

That dind't work.

Now I've installed the game from my original CD's, when installed it forced me to update trough the launcher so I can't even test if it works in its original state (how I first played it).

Because I already downloaded all the EE patches I declinded the automatic launcher.
Now I'm patching the game to EE from the downloaded patches, I got this feeling it won't work but gotta try it.

I've tryed everything so far, I don't get it.

I'm still wondering, how is it possible that the official files from GOG itself (re-downloaded just to be sure, just yesterday) and the launcher update that comes with it make so much problems for me. It "freezes" at launch and i'm stuck with the witcher icon just sitting there, and nothing in my processes list except for launcher.exe.

New update, does anyone even read this forum xept for tommy? :/

I've manually checked all the patch files with the MD5 codes and they all checked out, still I went over and re-engaged the patcher and its about to end patching now. Still no luck... Kind of depressing.

Here it is, download this file: http://www.ziddu.com...EE_Fix.rar.html
Mirror 1: http://depositfiles....files/gwt9jumho
Mirror 2: http://www.filefacto...n/TW2EE_Fix_rar
Mirror 3 (ZIP file): http://depositfiles....files/iy36phcqk
Mirror 4 (ZIP file): http://www.filefacto...n/TW2EE_Fix_zip

Download fix from one of these sites . Paste it in The Witcher 2 directory and make sure you are offline when starting if the game still doesn't start . But after this fix you can start the game even with internet .

I don`t know what kind of fix those files are as none of them are to a working link .

@ Krowkie
Glad you got it working after many attempts . Can`t say for sure why the GOG version didn`t work . The one I got from them works ok....just strange .

What I did here is generate some MD5 numbers for the Witcher 2 GOG version if you want to check your GOG version files .
