Bought the original version via Direct2Drive. Updated and patched and now it won't start.

I bought the original version and played for a while. Came back after a year and the launcher automatically patched and updated the game to enhanced version. I was happy at first but then the game won't start anymore. Some "there is a problem with the Launcher" issue. I uninstalled the game and installed it 2 times and the problem persists.

What can I do?

Try running it from the witcher2.exe, it's in the witcher 2 bin folder.

Now I am not even sure if I should get a new DVD copy..could it be this digital version not working somehow?

There is a steam_api.dll file in the bin folder..does that mean I have to run it via steam?!

To find out if it's a problem with the D2D version, redeem your backup copy at gog.com and try if that version works: http://www.gog.com/witcher2/backup

You might also try setting the game to lowest settings via the configurator.exe (I think that's what it's called. something obvious anyways) in the The Witcher 2\bin folder.
