I am running Witcher 1 on the following configuration:
CPU Intel i5-3470
MB: Intel DB75EN
Video: Sapphire Radeon 7750 1 GB DDR5 low profile with Catalyst 13.1
Windows 8
and I ecounter the following issues:
- the intro movie is choppy, meaning that it looks like the video card is not fast enough. I do not know how to best describe this. It doesn't stop, it's just that sometimes the upper part of the movie is faster by a few miliseconds than the lower part, divided by a horizontal line. I can see this quite often for the intro movie. My monitor resolution is 1600 x 900. Is the card not fast enough for video playback?
- I can play the game acceptable at 1280 x 700 with High settings. If I want to play ay maximum resolution I get lower than 30 fps sometimes. What are the expectation of playing this game on Radeon 7750? What are the optimal settings?
Thanks,
Codrut

The 7750 should be plenty ample enough to play the witcher. Depending on where you are in the game will show up in the FPS. The trade and temple quarters are the worst. I run a GTX560 Ti and in the trade quarter I get sometimes in the low 20`s for FPS at 1600 x 900 with all settings at high. I don`t know what is causing the video playback issue. Some have reported that installing additional codec packages fixed their issues. But the witcher uses bink codec which doesn`t use any additional codecs for playback.

I managed to resolve the issue just by installing a little utility called D3DOverrider (part of RivaTuner).
With Vsync and triple buffering enabled I can play the game at maximum resolution (1600x900) with everything set to High. I am running using the default AMD drivers provided by Microsoft in Windows 8.
Thanks

I actually must come with an update. It was not the D3DOverrider which resolved the problem but running the game in Windows 7 compatibility mode (I am running Windows
. So, in case anyone has problems with the game in Windows 8 should set the game to run in compatibility mode. I run at 1600x900 with all settings on high on a Radeon 7750 and everything is just fine.
