I came here since no help from Steam-forums/community. Bought the game from Steam.

Problem, I've encountered stuttering while playing the game. It's present most of the time I play and shows more clearly in some places than others. So far the most visible place is when Geralt escapes the prison and the boat arrives to some forest or marsh. Other thing that makes it more visible is when Geralt is running, walking is just fine, running awful. Fps seems otherwise smooth, but the game seems to "freeze" for a nanosecond every now and then. So when the "camera" is panning smooth, it's stuttering every few seconds. The stuttering seems to be constant, but not like low FPS. Although I can't get an FPS reading from the game, since FRAPS nor RadeonPro for some reason doesn't show it in this game(and this game only). I've so far tried everything from the launcer, from the lowest settings to the highest. The only thing affecting the stutter seems to be the resolution. No other option seems to do anything about it, so I can run this decently with med-high settings but with low resolution. I can't run this with native resolution and absolutely minimum settings. My computer is equal or above recommended so this shouldn't be the case, or should it??

So far I've tried:
Every option in launcher on or off, low or high. Even let the game set me up with the best it saw fit.
The stutterfix (the small file dx9 or smthing), didn't do anything.
RadeonPro (for "Flip queue size" that is said to be the same as pre rendered frames to 1 fix with nvidia cards)
The Witcher 2 tweaker, didn't do anything.

So far I've spent more time trying to fix the game than actually playing it and this is my last straw.

Rig(no overclocking whatsoever):
Intel Core2 Duo E8500 3,16 ghz
Ram 4gt
ATI 4890 HD 1gt
Win Vista 32b Home
Screen is 24" 1920x1080 (so resolution 1280x768 is just pure carbage to look at)

CPU heat isn't the problem, not sure where to look for GPU heat, I think I once found it but can't remember anymore.

I'm thinking that either the dual core CPU or some additional load on your system (Vista is full of parasitic crap) is causing little stutters. This game is definitely happier on quad core systems. A 4890 should be plenty powerful enough to render 1920x1080, but this game is very dependent on the number of pixels, so trying a lower resolution is still worth the experiment.

Does it smooth out at all if you turn off Vsync? Or if you set 1280x720 resolution?

Well now the game seems to be playable with 1600x900 resolution and some settings medium. Although I see some stuttering, but not all the time. It's hard to say if this is actually just low fps or not, seems to be too irregular to be low fps. I have no clue why fraps doesn't work with this game so I could actually see the difference in FPS when changing settings. 1080p is still unplayable, it seems otherwise smooth, apart from running and cutscenes. Walking around doesn't seem to make the game stutter, only running.

I must play more and see if this is actually playable with this resolution and detail.

Well, I played The Witcher 2 with this rig:

-Core2 Duo E7400 2,8 GHz
-RAM 3 Gb
-NVIDIA 9600 GT ----> Then to a 550 GTX
-Windows XP 32 bits
-Resolution 1280x1024

With both graphic cards I experienced a similar stuttering problem, though with the 550 was less problematic and could handle High settings much better. I think is basically a CPU problem here XD

Probably in Chapter 1 for example, you'll experience more stuttering in the village rather than in the forest. At least that is what happens to me. And fraps works with The Witcher 2 for me :wacko:/>
