Hello everyone! Will it be possible to make open world mods with REDkit? What you guys think?

Doubt it,the game engine is set to what it is.I think having openworld on RED engine through REDkit wouldn't turn out good,performance-wise.

Well, considering there is a lot of loading times while going around in The Witcher 2 (though in high-end PCs it seems there is almost any XD) maybe a truly open world could have weird macro-popping, unless you do places like the forest.

But honestly, I don't know.

This isn't really a question where opinions matter. The people who know the answer aren't allowed to talk about it, and the opinions of the people who don't know aren't worth much. When the kit is released, we'll all find out the answer. ;)

But TW3 and Cyberpunk are both supposed to be open world, which suggests that the RED Engine is -- or will become -- capable of supporting open-world games. Whether that capability will be part of the REDkit, we don't know yet.
Want to be IN a computer game? I'm making one, and I want a picture of you! See here for details.

I've made three new adventures for TW1; you can get them at corylea.com/.

I've also made a bunch of mods that fix bugs, kill annoyances or tweak gameplay; you can get those at the Witcher Nexus.

Considering the way TW2 works, I imagine a good design decision is to have transition areas which trigger the loading of data (maps, textures, sounds, etc.) from areas where you *might* be going, performed in the background as you unknowingly walk down that corridor/doorway/passage. For example, in TW2, you can tell the game loads while Geralt aligns himself and crosses those annoying doorways.

From what I understand though, even these areas do not hide loading screens on lower-end systems. So even if the game world is "open" in concept, not all computers might be able to handle that.

DISCLAIMER: I have no idea what I'm talking about since I have no clue how the RED Engine actually works. This is pure, entertaining speculation.

PC does not equal Windows. Personal computers run many different operating systems, like GNU/Linux and, why not, Windows. PC games should be available for all major platforms. Let's not be handcuffed and tied to one vendor. Utilize standard, cross-platform technologies!

All I can say is that it's just a matter of performance and creative work with your assets. If you really want to do it, Redkit doesn't hinder you.
