How well could I run this?

I've played The Witcher 2 on the 360 and I really enjoyed it, but I wanted to wait until I got a good PC before I purchased it since it will look a lot better. I'm hoping that my current PC will work.

Here is my spec.

OS: Windows 7 64-bit
Ram: 16GB 1600-MHz
CPU: i7-3770K 3.50-GHz (Is not overclocked yet)
Graphics card: 5770

I think that is all I need to list.

I know I won't be able to run it at ultra but I was hoping for or high or at least medium.

I'll be getting a GTX 680 at the end of next month. So when I have that graphics card will I be able to run it at ultra?

Shouldn't have a problem on High. The GPU is well above minimum, and others have had good success with it. The game isn't particularly CPU-dependent, and overclocking components just brings out stability problems you might otherwise not have had.

A GTX 680 should be able to do Ultra, no problem. Probably not Ubersampling or Cinematic DOF, which are killers.

Okay. Thanks. I heard that Ubersampling is basically impossible to run with almost any PC right now. But what is Cinematic DOF?

"Cinematic DOF" controls whether to apply DOF (depth of field) to cutscenes (like the opening sequence with Geralt running through the forest). It has very poor performance for most setups, and usually it should be disabled.

Ubersampling works with top-of-the-line single GPUs, probably with the 680 and with the best SLI and Crossfire setups.

Whether you actually like these features well enough to enable them is for you to decide :)/>/>

I have one last question. Where should I buy this game from? Steam, Origins, GOG.com, or Gamestop.com? (I have a ten dollar gift card for gamestop so I would only be paying half the price if I got it either digitally or retail) or should I just get the disc version instead of downloading it?

I doubt Ubersampling but you can sure have DOF on.

GoG gives more money to the developers, as they're related companies, so all else being equal, please buy it there.
With all of the other options, you can also take advantage of a free backup from GoG, so you'll get the GoG version anyway.
Steam gives you the advantage of Steam achievements if that's important to you, but more people seem to have problems with the Steam version than the others.
Gamestop's fine if you want the retail version (or something to use that gift card on), but be aware of which version you're buying. You'll need to patch after purchase.
Origins only if you're already a big fan. Friends don't let friends get drawn into buying stuff at Origins.

How does downloading a game from GoG work? does it just download the installer and that's it? Or is it like when you download a game from steam and you need to play it through steam?

I don't care about achievements, so that's off of the list.

it says version 2.0. Is that the DRM free version or is GoG the only place selling the DRM free one?

I just through origins in since I have it installed. (It's kind of mandatory if you buy a game from EA)

So basically it comes down to either GoG.com or Gamestop.com.

If you buy from GoG, you can download either directly from the site (standard web download), or you can use their download manager. If you use their download manager, you can delete the manager once you've finished - it's just a convenient way of downloading large files, and doesn't do anything else. I use Firefox+DownThemAll to download from GoG.

I'm not sure about the Origins version, as I don't know anyone who has bought a Witcher game from there, but the Steam version has to be played through Steam. Retail and GoG versions are DRM-free so there's no restrictive requirements.

The download version is pretty big (around 14GB the last time I looked), and if the retail version is earlier than EE (version 3.0), you would need to do a patch update of around 10GB to get it to EE. If bandwidth is important, buy retail and make sure that it's EE (Game version 3.0)

Is the GoG version EE? Also should I buy the first one as well?

Yes, the GOG edition is EE. And the original Witcher is well worth the price and your time. Bigger world, more leisurely play, some wonderful characters, same idea of consequences that come back to bite you.
