After having finished my List of Top 10 favorite video game protagonists, I thought it would be cool start with an unranked and irregular list of my favorite magnificent bastards in fiction, before proceeding with making a list of my top 10 favorite video game antagonists.

Those in the protagonist or antagonist lists who would qualify will not have two articles written about them, but would be put in the list, which can be found here.

And here's the list as it stands now:

- Kane (Command and Conquer)
- Kain (Legacy of Kain)
- The Lich King (WarCraft)
- Raul Menendez (Black Ops 2)

Any comments, suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated, as well as any recommendation with regards to works of fiction which you think has a magnificent bastard. Also feel free to share your list and opinions with regards to the characters and the character type in general!

Brings a tear to the eye knowing how they utterly fucked him up in Twilight. Great read.

Sheesh, I had to google that. For one horrible moment, I thought you meant the OTHER Twilight. The thought that you'd actually seen it was shocking to say the least.

That game never happened...

Edit: good read as usual KoP,
I just want to mention my choices, im going to detail them if i have some spare time at work.

Well Kreia from Kotor 2 is a magnificent bastard(bitch?) manuplative to the bone.
I also vote for Vayne Solidor.
BG1&2s bad guys, Sarevok and Jon Irenicus.
Amon from The Legend of Korra.
Nothing is true, everything is permiteed.

The CnC Twilight is probably just as bad.

You thought I'd ever see twilight? Maybe if someone pointed a gun to my head then maybe.

But as Knight pointed out it's probably better then Command and Conquer: Twilight.

I'll give credit for Westwood for creating the universe and setting, and for displaying uncannily foresight in realizing that transnational organizations are going to be prominent.
But in terms of the actual story in CnC 1 and 2, it's meh and Kane was just a comic book villain. I know EA is not popular around here (lol well everywhere), but I think CnC 3 and Kane's Wrath were the best CNC. Of course then Twilight came about and fucked it up.

My newest entry, the Lich King from WarCraft.
And no I do not take WoW or other related material into consideration.

As a sidenote, the Lich King in WarCraft 3 is like Emhyr, one of the rare magnificent bastards who don't even show up.

I used to. Back in elementary school (7th and 8th grade) we got a modern computer room and a young teacher, guess what game got installed on all of them? We were allowed to stay after school and play via LAN, and I also played the single player campaign at home. I don't have interest in RTS anymore, but I loved WC3 and Blizzard. A lot of Night and Blood Elf fanart was made. Also, Illidan <3

It's hard to have interest in what is a pretty much dead genre. Sure there's a FEW strategy titles that come out every now and then but they are too few.

I wouldn't know since I lost that interest ten years ago. I'm a big fan of a 'dead' genre - point & click adventure - and there's still so many titles I want to play. It used to be super popular, though. Was RTS ever big?

There used to be a time when we would have dozens of RTS games coming out in a span of a few years, nowadays we are happy if we get ONE good solid RTS a year.

Which is a shame, because some of my favorite stories are from RTSs, most notably WarCraft, StarCraft, and the Tiberium universe (Red Alert was a joke story wise, which is intended)

Sadly , RTS genre is deader(word?) than Adventures. At least we get some good indie adventure games each year. For RTS like Costin said, 1 solid game in a year is all we can get...

And for topic KoP, do you know Jarlaxle and Artemis Entreri from Drizzt's books? Both are great magnificent bastards but Jarlaxle is miles ahead of Entreri. Here some info about him if you have time :)
