However, I do agree it's stupid to have 'legendary' items in the beginning of a game that do less damage than a ladle. ›››

Yay!
And yeah, Aerondight *the second most powerful silver sword in the game* Areondight 2.0 *an ice cream scoop*

All real weapons should do a good amount of damage if they hit something. This is one of the things that made little sense in W2.

I liked Aver's idea about losing the weapons until Act 3. There's precedent from the books, isn't there?

Easiest solution with Aerondight or Raven's Armour would be to give them bonuses that are based on Geralt's level. Set it up so that they keep pace with the increase in difficulty curve for each chapter, and have them be comparable with the best items available. This way, they won't penalise new players who don't have them, or players who imported saves without them, but they won't be insanely overpowered either.

Aerondight being relegated to also-ran status was a bit disappointing in TW2. I was expecing a bit more from it after all that build-up.

Yeah, I quickly realised that this would probably be Easiest in a setting of levelled loot/gear (but I am not fond of the idea of levelled loot/gear).

Yeah, quest items would probably be the best idea and leveled gear would be second to it. I also didn't like it how they imported 1% of your orens, to me it seemed like it wasn't enough, 5% would've worked better seeing as most people would've only had like 200 orens left at the end of the game.

I kind of like the idea of having future games give due reverence to equipment with special provenance. Granted it would have to be done in a way that didn’t unbalance things, but there’s plenty of ways in which this could be done.

I'd actually love my armors and weapons being imported to The Witcher 3.

I kept my Raven's Armor, Aerondight and Moonlight from TW1 throughout TW2. Never sold them, just kept them with me for memories and as my lucky charms.

Then again, I did this with all my armors because selling them wasn't really worth it. You'd only get around 90 Orens for a set of armor which seemed incredibly low to me.

I agree with what the OP said, most of armors/weapons in TW2 didn't really have a story to them whereas Raven's Armor, Aerondight and Moonlight did have one in TW1, I'd really like my armors to have a story to them, feels like they're extra special and I'd probably never sell them.

I don't think they should give the armors/weapons better stats when importing them to TW3 but they should do something else with it, like giving them to a museum as suggested, or maybe having people recognizing them and talk to you about them or start a questline for the armors to upgrade them with special armor upgrades or runes? Perhaps even new armors with a story between the old ones and the new ones.

Unfortunately the whole "story behind them" thing was only possible in TW1 because there weren't many types of armor or swords. I kind of liked that. Imagine in TW2 going crazy to find a awesome sword and then it being worthless an hour later?

I felt that there were way too many swords and armors in TW2. It was supposed to be more for the hardcore RPG fans who love having hundreds of armors and weapons to customize their characters with. I'd rather just have a few different kinds of swords and armors.

True, but there were some armors like the Vran armor or the Armor of Ban Ard, they could've put a nice story behind. The Vran Armor did have somewhat of a quest behind it but no real story.
Even if it was just a journal update or a little cutscene when Geralt puts the armor on describing the history of the armor, that would be really cool :)

For a moment I contemplated not to sell the aerondight but when I saw that it was no longer relevant and just a drag, I sold it, I can't even remember to which merchant I dropped it.

The Raven armor is just magnificent but got irrelevant again against foes that were heavily armored. Perhaps obsolescence got the better off these two epic equipment.

Personally I think game should only import and recognize your decisions and consequences nothing else. No OP items or extra cash. ›››

The game needs to be designed for who the character is. A sword or some cash can be a part of a characters journey.
The simplest way to solve the problem with OP stuff is either through narrative techniques (your stuff got confiscated, you might get it back eventually if you fight for it or play your cards right) or to make gear more similar in stats (It does not matter overly much if you or an enemy gets hit with this or that weapon, people and creatures still tend to loose limbs and/or die if they get hit with a sharp metal object hard enough). or both.
