Had not come upon a great game in 2012.
but in my opinion, the best character design was Haythem Kenway from Assassins Creed III.

I couldn't finish it. I really enjoyed the first chapter until Boston. Then game started to become unplayable. Random framerate drop started

For me 2012 was a terrible year. "Sleeping Dogs" is the only game that was memorable for me. There were plenty of "ok" games, but none of them were amazing.
If you see a grammar mistake in my post, then I don't mind if you send me a notice about it via PM. I always want to improve my English grammar.

Dishonored: very good stealth game, good combat system and atmosphere, really liked it.
Torchlight 2: everything Diablo 3 was not, tons of loot, customization and just incredibly fun imo.
Far Cry 3, finally a fps worth my time.
Dark Souls PC: with Gamepad, superb combat, challenge and atmosphere this one was tons of fun as well.
Xcom Enemy Unknown: addicting and i missed turn based strategy.
Mark of the ninja: best indie this year along T2.
The walking dead, good old point and click adventure.
Borderlands 2, Max payne 3 and Mass Effect 3 i found boring.

The Walking Dead was good 'game'*, but definitely not "good old point and click". There was very little interaction with environment and no puzzles. It was more like "quick time event adventure".
*For me it was more like visual novel, but I really enjoyed it.

Wow, the number of new titles some of you manage to play during one year is really astounding.
I had plenty of time the last year, but even so I only played three games released in 2012:
X-Com, Wing Commander Saga and Black Mesa, which I all enjoyed tremendously.
The rest of the year I tried to decrease my gaming backlog. I finally played Planescape Torment (simply awesome!), Portal 2 (mind-boggling level-design), finished Titan Quest (quite good Hack'n Slash, though at the end the gameplay became somewhat tiresome and I finished it only out of a sense of obligation), replayed Wing Commander 1-4 (thanks to GOG)and Witcher 1 with FCR and neutrality path and started Heroes of Might & Magic 3.
I still have to finish Medieval 2 Total War with the Stainless Steel Mod (I've been playing my HRE campaign now for over two years), X3 Terran Conflict and I've recently started playing Crusader Kings II, which eats away all my free time at the moment
So my personal list of favourite games I played in 2012 in no particular order:
Planescape Torment
Portal 2
Wing Commander Saga
Black Mesa
X-Com
Crusader Kings II
Witcher 1

True enough should have written more like that it reminded me slightly of those point and click with a lot of qte's but yeah it was certainly not a game i expected to like.
