I checked the game cache and changed compatibility to XP2. Read it crashes a lot on Steam forums so i guess it's inherent but any other settings i can try. Specs are:

AMD 560 be
Sapphire HD7850
4gb DDR3 ram
500gb sata hd

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

Thanks!

Try disabling auto save and the Steam overlay. If autosave is disabled then be sure and do the F5 quite a bit. You probably need to clear out some saves from time to time by either moving them to another folder or deleting them.

Thanks. Didn't work though, it seems to happen mostly during cutscenes. I have been saving regularly though but it's gonna be slow going at this rate! :(/>/>

What else can i try? Oh and does my OP tell you anything? Thanks!

Yes it tells me what .dll files are in use when the game crashes. Does it crash in other places like in opening doors or entering new areas? Where are you in the game?

No the crashes seem fairly random. It crashed when i was speaking to Olaf at the Inn, when i was about to fight the bandits before escorting the woman and just after killing the beasts during the cutscene at grandmas house, the last one has happened a couple of times but it has crashed at random times. I was getting an irq not less or equal bsod previously if that means anything but i think it was due to my OC being a bit high as it's not happened since but i've just tried lowering the cpu speed a bit, will report back in a bit. Thanks. :)

Any BSOD is not a good sign. Could possibly be driver issues or possibly something more serious. Might be a good idea to post your system specs.

The way AMD pushes their drivers, any overclocking is likely to destabilize some games. "IRQ not less or equal" is almost always a driver fault (or a hardware fault causing a driver fault). Cutscenes, opening doors, and events like that involve mode switches (between 2D and 3D, and at these times, the drivers are changing clock frequency and supply voltage. If anything can go wrong, it is most likely to go wrong at these times.

If you are overclocking, the first thing to try is to remove overclock (even factory overclock) and overvoltage settings. If that isn't enough, look for heating problems; this is especially a concern with TWEE, which (opposite of TW2) pushes the GPU hard in 2D mode (!). Especially if you see display artifacts before a crash, think heating problems.

This is not a criticism of AMD. nVidia does the same exact thing, because desktop GPU makers compete on 3D performance. Speed-selected chips have little margin of safety, and changes to get more performance out of DX11 reduce even that.

Hey i think it's sorted, i had tweaked the bios voltages a bit to try and get it more stable which stopped the bsods but i was still getting CTDs, i set everything to it's defaults apart from my oc which i lowered to 3.8ghz and bumped the voltage up and i played for a few hours yesterday without a single crash. :)/>/>

My mobo is an Asus m4a78lt-m le which i'm thinking about upgrading so i can add more ram and a faster processor, my gpu is total overkill! :lol:/>

Hey! Good info and it could explain some of what's been going on. I didn't think my system would have a problem as it's quite an old game although my machine isn't the fastest but i've tested it pretty well to find the best clock speeds, i can get 4ghz on air but with games i usually have to lower it to 3.8.

Oh by the way Soluto says i'm frustrated by the witcher grafik mod which i've since removed as i thought that was related to the bsod but i was thinking of reinstalling it, could it be responsible for any of the issues i've had?

Thanks!

I wouldn`t think so . But to be sure play for awhile without the graphic mod say a couple of hours and see how many f any crashes you get. Then reinstall the graphic mod and try again.

Yeah i thought not, it was fine for the few hours i played it yesterday so i'll reinstall the mod and see what happens. The bsods seemed to stop after i removed it which is why i was asking.
