Hello everyone,

I hope this isn't a repost, I took a quick look on the threads but I haven't found any thread that is similar to this one.

My problem is as follows:

2 days ago, I upgraded my laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 8. Everything went well and I ran all my Steam games and they're all working fine, except the original Witcher game. When I start the game, a small window pops up: "Warning! Minimum system requirements are not met!".

I tried easy solutions like restarting my laptop but nothing worked out. I don't know why, of all my games, my laptop decided not to run The Witcher, the game that I play the most on my laptop.

I have played the game for 42 hours when I was using Windows 7 on my laptop without such problems. Now after upgrading it to Windows 8, it won't run The Witcher.

If you have any solutions to this problem, please help me!

In the Steam Client, find the game in your library, right-click on it and bring up the properties, then click on "Set Launch Options". Type

-dontForceMinReqs

(including the hyphen)
It's an old game. Modern hardware and OS's get it confused, so it decides that it doesn't meet the minimum spec even though it does. This instruction tells the game not to check.

Did you update your drivers after upgrading to 8? What is the make and model of your laptop?

This solved my problem. Thank you very much! Now I can carry on with the game.

If you uninstall it from steam, then re-install it. It will work as steam will automatically dl the proper files to make sure!

I hope this helps.

@aliiatua - you can add something to your existing posts by clicking on the edit button, which is better than posting multiple times. :)
