Ok, now I've uninstalled the wacom, should I try loading the game again?

Give it a try. Let us know how it turns out. I'd hate for it to be the Wacom driver, but it's known to be troublesome.

It still wont load, instead it does this weird thing where the colours of the screen goes to 256 and the screen resolution goes to 640x480 and then doesn't load the game, instead it exits back to the desktop.

I checked the properties of the launcher application (found under Program files (x86)/steam/ steamapps/ common/ The Witcher: Enchanced Edition/ Laucher), yes I did tinker around with them earlier (I changed it to Windows XP service pack 2, run in 256 colors, run in 640x480 screen resolution, disable visual themes and run program as administrator).

But for some reason when I try to change it back over to what the settings were originally, it doesn't want to. :(/>

I would check the power supply. Simply lay the tower on it`s side (power off first) then remove the side cover and take a look inside toward the top rear should be your power supply and there should be a yellow sticker with the details of the supply should be visible. A flashlight will help to be able to read the numbers better. Basically just the brand name and model number will suffice in most cases.

EDIT: you should be able to just uncheck all the settings you made and click apply and ok

Why do I need to check the power supply?

I tried that, but its still doing what it was doing before. 256 colors and the screen resolution goes to 640x480 and then doesn't load the game, instead it exits back to the desktop.

EDIT: It wasn't doing this when I first played the game, only after I changed some of the settings.

We`re trying to find out why the game doesn`t load or gives a black screen. And the power supply is a major part of any system.

Oh ok, that makes sense. Here is what I found when I opened up the tower.

Power Supply: Antec, Model TP3-550, 550 Watt Output.

AC Input: 100-240~ 9A ; 50Hz/60Hz

DC Output: +5V, +3.3V, +12V1, +12V2, +12V3, -12v, +5VSB
Max: 2HA, 24A, 18A, 18A, 18A, 0.8A, 3.0A
Min: 0.3A, 0.5A, 1A, 1A, 1A, 0A, 0A

+3.3V and +5UMax. Output: 140W; + 12V1, +12V2 and +12V3 Max. Load: 42A

Barcode: A2 W (under the A2) T08080306028

And then I found a little white sticker which said this: Hi-POT OK

Hi-POT OK = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hipot

The power supply seems ample enough
EDIT
Have you tried running the game from the witcher exe found in the witcher/system folder

That's an Antec Truepower Trio. It's a Seasonic-made power supply that is the same as the Seasonic S12II 520W and the Corsair TX 520W. Good power supply, should be more than adequate for a 57xx card.

I suspect that in your efforts to try to make the game run by setting 640x480 256-color mode, you got hold of a configuration file you shouldn't have tampered with, or deleted the AMD drivers. Should probably try to recover a normal graphics setup before proceeding further.

Of course, I had totally forgotten about that. :X
I checked the properties of The Witcher exe, and I found that I had also changed the compatibility settings for that too. I'll change them back and see if that solves the problem.

Yay, its working again now. I think the reason why my computer kept shutting down was due to overheating. I've changed the resolution in the game so the screen is smaller and adjusted the graphics. Its running fine now. :)

Now, I need to find a way to register the game on Steam.

Just reinstall your graphics drivers.
Can`t remember if I linked you to the VC Redistributables page or not
Reinstall the 2005, 2008, and 2010 X86 packages links are toward the bottom of the page

The link offers me one download, which I downloaded but an error popped up stating that I already have the latest version. Do I have to delete the current version I have now and install the new one?

EDIT: I found what I think you were referring to (Visual C++), should I also do the same with the x64 files too?

You can install both X86 and X64 versions. Won`t hurt a thing. If you install and it says that you have the latest version. Then that`s ok and move on to the next one.

What should I next, now that I've reinstalled the X86 and X64 versions?

Retry the game. Did you reinstall your video drivers?

No, but I've upgraded them. And its still shutting down, I think it has to do with the computer overheating or possibly a power drawing problem (or so I've been told by others). I personally don't know.
