Hi there,

I recently purchased TW2 on Steam (During the sale, good deal imo) and I am having some performance problems that make the game unplayable for me.

I am suffering from mouse lag in the menus, and in the game itself (The main menu works just fine, others do not) and a poor frame rate with some minor stuttering as well. I've already looked around for some solutions, obviously I've tried playing with the settings with no avail (Game suggests lowest settings, I tried changing the texture requirements which helped a little bit I think) Resolution is at 1920x1080

Here are the specs of my machine, not the best machine out there, but I usually have no trouble running games at decent settings and smooth frame rate unless the game is poorly optimized. (Here's looking at you GTA IV)

Intel Core i7-2600S 2.8GHZ
8GB RAM
AMD RADEON HD 6700M w/512MB VRAM

I'd be very appreciative if anyone can help me out here, Thanks.

None of the "Whistler" chipset (6630M through 6770M) cards are well suited to this game, which depends heavily on the graphics card and its output stage. This is especially true at high resolution (1920x1080). I'd try reducing the resolution to 1280x720 to see how much improvement you get.

Substantial improvement with that, still are there any other things I can try? Seems a shame I can't push 1080 on this.

Turning off eye candy helps: especially relatively useless features like DOF and motion blur. But it doesn't help a lot. The big problem is you have 2+ megapixels on a 1920x1080 display, and this game seems to do a lot of processing per pixel. 1280x720 is less than 1 megapixel, so when you have only 8 output processors, you get frames done a lot faster.

You are not the only person who is having this problem with the steam version of the game, i have 2 friends who have just got this game through steam today and thay are having the same problem. I have a DVD of the game when it first came out with runs fine on both there PC's with the updates, but there steam versions lag and are choppy like mad. I think there is some sort of file error on the download version on steam. PS i have downloaded the steam version onto my PC which runs the game no problems of the DVD, put the steam version lags and hangs, so there far i would say there is a problem with the steam version. Hope this helps in some way.

So, I was able to download a .dll file for a stuttering problem some people have, and this seems to have patched it slightly.

What the bigger problem is for me is the absolutely horrible input lag from my mouse, I think if this were resolved, the game would be playable at least.

Any suggestions for that?

Hi there.
I bought the game during the Steam sale as well, and I had the same issues that you describe.
At first the game was totally unplayable, but after updating my GPU drivers (ATI as well) and my Catalyst Application Profiles (as suggested in the game´s FAQ) the performance improved a lot. Initially I couldn´t play it even at low settings, and now at high settings the game is playable, albeit not perfectly.
The only issue that remains for me is a bit of the mouse lag thing you mention. Again: it improved a lot, so the game is playable now, but it can be a bit annoying. Haven´t had much time to try different settings after updating my drivers, so I´ll post again later if I find something else.

Ok, so I did a bit of testing with different settings after updating my drivers. A mix of low and medium settings are enough for the game to run quite smoothly all the time. With high settings it does well when I´m indoors, but it lags significantly when outside.
Here are my specs, BTW:

AMD Phenom II X4 945 3.00 GHz
RAM: 4 GB
ATI Radeon HD 5670 1 GB

What do you guys think? Should I be able to run it better?

Sounds about right for a 5670. One of my setups is very similar, including the Phenom II and 5670. This card's not up to the stated minimum, and you need to make compromises for good performance. I get good results with it at medium and reduced resolution (1280x720, 1440x900), but you're still going to see times your frame rate sinks to about 15.

Great, thanks for the info!

To be honest, this game looks bloody great even in low settings, so I´m ok playing it this way.
