Locations & Choice Impact on The Witcher 3

So I just finished the game again and I noticed in the outro the flame representing Nilfgaard sweeping over a map of the North Mahakam and Brokilon are untounched by it. This got me thinking that either of these locations could be potential settings for the start of the game before Geralt heads into Nilgaard to search for Yennefer, since this implies that these locations successfully defend or are left alone by the Nilgaardians they can be 'blank-slates' that are always the same whatever choices you made in TW2.
That way when Geralt asks or is told about how the war is progressing in the rest of the North the information is related through dialogue rather than cutscenes, this way players choices in TW2 can be seen to have an effect without having to manage all the different variables and endings available in TW2 or ignoring it completely (E.g. If there is a strong North the defence against the invasion can be seen to be going good, if there is a weaker North Nilfgaard can be heard to be making huge gains against the Nordlings)
What locations do you think will be featured in The Witcher 3?

Always when these threads pop-up, I mention Toussaint.
And this time its no different. I seriously want to see Toussaint. Dandelion could really shine here, since he did not get enough light in W2. And there could be at least some easter eggs with Regis. I can definitely see Toussaint as perfect location for chapter 1 in story.

Nilfgaard City, but I have a feeling that location is a "sure thing".
Dol Blathanna. When there's intrigue involving Nilfgaard and elves, Dol Blathanna and Francesca Findabair should be right in the middle of it.
Cintra. Strategic kingdom on the border; places like this are where knowledge and trouble are to be found.

Just finished Witcher 2 on an iMac and impressed with the graphics, music, characterplay, etc. My only plea is to have a better balance in the Chapter content acroos all chapters. It is common to experience alot of content (quests and mini-quests) in Part (or Chapter 1) with less in 2 and even less in 3. It seems as though the game is running out of a storyline - and I've seen this with other RPGs as well. So by the time I got myself Vran Armour, great swords and awsome spell (sorting out the Dragon with a few swipes), the game was nearing it's end. Would have been good to be able to use such amazing armour in more mini quests or even better, have more main content and mini-quests.

We know TW3 is going to be an open world game so I don't think they'll show us more then the Nilfgaardian capital and several locations around it, perhaps a few cities.

Well then they have two options, either drop the open world and maybe give us 3-4 large areas to explore throughout the game or make the world so huge as to include cities in the north in which case the scale of cities, towns, villages would be very small.
Personally I am in favor of the former. I don't care much for any open world RPG that has been made.

I think the witcher series has just the right amount of balance between complete open world and complete linearity; small to medium hubs that you are free to explore until the next chapter or act.
I agree with you, I dont think open world gameplay would suit the Witcher series, it would hinder the storyline in my opinion.

When and where was TW3 confirmed to be open world? I have a feeling I might have missed something big.

For me i'd like a straight road leading south from Loc Muinne, skirting the war as it advances, seeing how Aedirn is coping with the recent changes and the approaching enemy. Stop off in Gulet, Vangerburg, Dol Blathanna and maybe even Rivia to scare the living shit out of Rob.
To be honest though i'm content with whatever and wherever the writers decide to present to us.

Wait. How do you know that The Witcher 3 is going to be an open world game? That's quite intriguing. Not a big fan of open world games. The game design usually turns out to be flimsy as fuck and just meanders around, dicking the player around needlessly. It feels kinda lazy, as if they're not really interested in creating engaging content for the player, so they tell the player to create their own experience. Which is bullshit, obviously.
Though, apart from the Elder Scrolls, I can't really think of any RPG open world games. I mean it could work. If they manage to invoke the sense of exploration and provide lots of stuff to do in the map, then I'd be interested to see how it all plays out. By this point, I trust in CDPR.
Though still not sure if it's even gonna be open world? I did see in a couple of posts here and there that Cyberpunk is gonna be open world. Or did I misread things? Either way, I'm intrigued.

Huh, that would actually be really awesome. And it makes logical sense within the context of the story. He's heading south, war is travelling north. He gets to see what some of his decisions amounted too, maybe? So yeah, great idea.
Not that big of a deal if they opt to do something else entirely. I definitely trust CDPR and I cannot wait to see what they have in store for us!

There's problems with Dandelions "identity"? Huh, what have I missed here?!
And what the hell is a boneheart!? :S
I feel so out of the loop nowadays
Tearing my hair out, trying to figure out why there aren't any non-human Witchers, or at least something equivalent to a Witcher oriented warrior.

Think he meant Leo Bonhart.
And Dandelion's "identity" if he shows his face in Toussaint may well be "pie filling". He had to leave town in a hurry not so many years ago that the Duchess will have forgotten or forgiven. This would make a fine opportunity for Geralt to stage a dramatic (and possibly romantic) rescue.

I would love to visit Toussaint. Though it's faaar faaar away from Skellige Islands. Also it would be very interesting to visit Oxenfurt university and see if the student's life there is as sweet as Dandelion claims it is. What more... Cintra, Soden Hill and of course Rivia, though it has nothing to do with Geralt. He made up the title "of Rivia"
But still, my favorite is Toussaint.
