I have no problem with tough bosses. I really don't. The problem with the Kayran is that it is a cheap boss, and it exploits every weakness in the combat system. The dodging is a bit unresponsive, and the fight is based on dodging. The hits are timed, but sometimes the Kayran gets a hit in-between. I would sometimes even get hit when hitting a tentacle. It wouldn't be a big problem, except each mistake gets me killed. The vast majority of my deaths were cheap, and that's why it was so enraging. I die in games a lot, especially because I choose tougher difficulties, but dying is rarely this upsetting.

The thing about the Kayran

Where are you stuck with it?
Anyway, you get the recipe from Cedric I believe, Ostmurk(?) from a cave (your'e supposed to have a waypoint), and you make the potion through meditation like all potions. ›››

Damn it, I sent a report instead of a reply.
You don't have to have the potion. It's useful but not critical.

On PC, I find dodging to be %100 responsive. Hotkeys are broken again in the EE, but dodging never fails me. The Kayran is simple:
-cast Quen
-cast Yrden, then stand by the trap.
-when the tentacle rises highest, you know it's coming down, so dodge.
-hack it off. Rinse and repeat.
Unlike the other boss fights, you don't need a powerful sword or much thought with alchemy, and the tactic is simple. In fact, in my last three runs I kill the Kayren quite early in chapter 1 for the massive XP boost. I leave Endraga queens, Claws of Madness, and Melitelles heart till the last, cause those fights are much harder.
