Endure. In enduring, grow strong.

Vhailor: When the injustice is great enough, justice will lend me the strength needed to correct it. None may stand against it. It will shatter every barrier, sunder any shield, tear through any enchantment, and lend its servant the power to pass sentence. Know this: There is nothing on all the Planes that can stay the hand of justice when it is brought against them. It may unmake armies. It may sunder the thrones of gods. *Know* that for all who betray justice, I am their fate. And fate carries an executioner's axe.
Nameless One: I see.
Vhailor: No, you do not see. Pray you never will.

Updated my journal.

I'm pretty sure that the main reason why most folk didn't like Vhailor was because he's fucking terrifying.
I was once asked by a journalist what my thoughts were on the modern world slipping into ignorance and apathy, I told him, "I don't know and I don't fucking care!"

A while back we talked about RPG tropes, one of them being dungeons and such being lit, despite no-one having set foot there in 1000 years. I've come across a game where this is certainly not the case, Timber and Stone. It's a Kickstarted game, and I have recently pledged $50 via Paypal, and got full beta access (it's not out yet). It has proper day cycles, and during the night it's full-on pitch black. You can't see shit. Its spiritual ancestor is Dwarf Fortress (I'd say) rather than Torment or even an RPG, but it's so much fun to play. I really like all these games coming out via Kickstarter, they are a massive boost to creativity and mixing of genres, plus of course the more old-style classics that we'll get in Numenera, Eternity, Wasteland 2 and others. On that note, I still haven't pledged for Numenera, but the idea is the $45 tier, because the physical tiers are simply too expensive outside the US. Getting Wasteland 2 on top is pretty sweet too, since I missed that campaign entirely.
Have to say I really like being part of the beta process. Direct contact with the developer is pretty nice, and being able to test and (hopefully) help him out, if only a little bit.

Back in the 90s we used to have shareware games distributed in different ways, including collections on CD-ROM. Some of these games were technologically behind in some areas but most of them were very unique and creative. Usually they included contact info to order the full version via mail, directly from the author/developer.
I feel Kickstarter is enabling us to establish an updated and enhanced version of this model, where we also get to vote in the design stages/creative process and the team actually gets some initial money to start with instead of peddling incomplete versions.
Back then I used to play those weird Indies as much as the big games. Thankfully now distribution is super easy and so are money transactions.
Kickstarter is helping bring back awesome games!

PC does not equal Windows. Personal computers run many different operating systems, like GNU/Linux and, why not, Windows. PC games should be available for all major platforms. Let's not be handcuffed and tied to one vendor. Utilize standard, cross-platform technologies!

Shades of the Elder God from Legacy of Kain in the Bloom, imagine the centuries slow, gargantuan intellect behind that Leviathan. Great stuff.

of course, it was always a matter of time. I hope this will boost pledges.

And there you go!
What is the current total including Paypal? And just how much money do they *really* need to make the game they want to make?
It is my understanding the budget for TW2 was around 5 million dollars. Anything close to that should be enough to make a truly memorable game, especially considering there probably won't be lots of voice acting or GPU-melting cutting-edge effects.

If they are making an isometric old school game with that kind of money, it better reflect it. TW2 had mountains of resource heavy elements to consider that this game won't even have to deal with.

PC vanilla version of witcher 2 had 8 million budget. Xbox version had another 7 million. So enhanced edition + xbox version was 15kk. 3,5kk budget for american studio is really small even if you consider lack of voice-over and basic engine. I have no idea how could they possibly deliver torment for 900k.
