Hi, I'm having frequent crashing in the game. Event Viewer points to MSVCR80.dll

Crashing is very bad in Chapter 3, but only in certain areas. Tanner's Square, New Narakort Inn party. It will crash every few minutes. There were a few crashes in Chapter 1 and 2 but it was still playable.

I've tried most of the common fixes you might suggest: autosave disable, graphic settings, TAGES, mod removal, admin mode + winXP compatibility mode, Visual studio reinstall (for all versions), manually moving new versions of the msvcr80.dll file. Nothing has worked unfortunately.

Looking for any other ideas or suggestions. Have attached my PCwizard file. I know I'm running Win 8 but I've been running the game in winXP compatibility mode (and even tried vista and win 7 compatibility mode for good measure lol)

Thanks in advance for any help.

Random crashing in Act III suggests a memory problem to me, probably because that's what I had a couple years ago. This is where the game uses the most memory and can hit physical addresses that have not been exercised by other programs. Have you run memtest over your memory since you started to see crashes?

Memory usage only 30% at time of crash vs 20% when I'm not running anything (out of 8GB total). I don't think the party in the Inn strains the memory too much

Sigh so frustrating, wish there was an easy fix or at least someone who has experienced the same problem.

That isn't what I was trying to say. It has nothing to do with using only a small percentage of total memory, or some hypothetical "stress" on your memory.

Memory can go bad. This reveals itself in random crashes, especially when memory use is above your system's usual average. Test your memory. It only takes a few minutes.

Also, unless this is a new computer, crashes are a sign that it is a suitable time to do some cleaning. Dust is the enemy of computer parts.

And by the time you get to Act III, you have accumulated a lot of saves. It's a good time to cull them. They take a lot of disk space, and the game spends a lot of time going through them.
