Is the Kinslayer set worth it?
30.11.2012 @ 07:35 #1
Is it? Unless you're reading a guide and getting ready for the orens and items necessary to forge it in Act III, it's usually very expensive and you usually end up completing it before the last 2 missions of the game, where it ends up being not that useful for Act III overall.
Other than completing the set so that you could transfer it to the Witcher 3 through your save(in which I completed in both Iorveth/Roche path), is there any other reason to go for it when it seems that Oathbreaker is an item set that is up to the standards of Act III?
Also, what worries me is that even if you do end up completing the Kinslayer set, It might end up being obsolete after 2 quests or so just like the Raven's Armor, Mahakaman Sihil and Aerondight.

Personal opinion - if you're looking at it purely from the viewpoint of the stats, the non-DM sets in Chapter 3 are best, rather than sticking with Oathbreaker or grinding for Kinslayer. The Oathbreaker swords are underpowered for the final act, unless you like a challenge, but there are other weapons around that are as good or better than the Kinslayer ones. The same applies to armour, if you've done the groundwork in the previous chapters.
Go for Kinslayer only if you WANT to have got all three sets, not for the stats.
Personal favourite for Chapter 3:
(And slim may be right about "overpowered". I always nerf the DM set by removing the bonus, so I may have a false impression of the stats. But standard swords fully loaded with fire runes do kick ass.)

I don't bother with any of the dark mode sets. They're overpowered and take way too much money to craft. ›››
I completed Kinslayer's on both Iorveth and Roche run, Kinslayer set is glorious but my only gripe is that if you weren't aware of it's requirements, you'd only be able to use the set for like 20~30% of Act III. As for me, I was lucky enough to not use that much oren on my first run(Iorveth route) so I didn't really need to worry about half the total cost of the set, I breezed through it on my second run(Roche route) because all I needed to do was keep on challenging Adam Pangratt in arm wrestling.

I am aware of that, but I like the lifesteal bonus of the sets. I'm just hoping that my efforts are worth it in Witcher 3 when I port my save, since we all know how long the best items in Witcher 1 were effective in Witcher 2 since practically the first swords and armor you get render the Raven's Armor, Mahakaman Sihil and the Aerondight obsolete.

Ah but come on mate! Oathbreaker armour is just soooo fucking sexy! It looks amazing. The design is just so damn simple and elegant. Less is truly more

Oh yeah baby Deithwen and Forgotten Vran are my favourite swords in the game! Just wish I could use them for a little longer than just that final short Act
That's always my least favourite aspect of RPGs! In the end, you're all maxed out. You've got the best gear, the best stats, you've mastered the combat. You're ready to take on the entire Nilfgaardian army! But then the game just abruptly ends, leaving you wanting for more. Damnit, I'm more ready than ever to kick ass! I want to use my awesome shit to kill as many sons of bitches as I can. And do so in style!
Though is Vran armour really better than Oathbreaker? I mean yeah the extra resistance on Vran is nice and all but the regeneration is kinda meh. If you did Melitiel's Heart in Act 1, you've already got some regen there. Besides you get a little more life with the Oathbreaker, and that kinda makes up for it. Not that I'd upgrade in Act 3 anyway. Oathbreaker just looks so damn good!
PS: I can't seem to edit my own custom spoiler name. Is that not possible to do on these forums? If so, can I sign a petition to get that feature incorporated? Or does just not work like in other forums?
Tearing my hair out, trying to figure out why there aren't any non-human Witchers, or at least something equivalent to a Witcher oriented warrior.

For me, it's worth getting Oathbreaker just so I can look like motherfucking pimp! Hoooooh!Oh yeah baby Deithwen and Forgotten Vran are my favourite swords in the game! Yeah, I like Oathbreaker. And I hope someone does post-game quests when the modkit comes out so that we can get to use those final swords for a bit longer. It always annoys me that I can never really get to use the Operator's Staff.

Depends on how good you are at dodging flames. I find the extra fire resistance a benefit. Your mileage may vary

Not a feature here. You can ask, but there's still a fairly long list of basic features that need to be fixed and that are probably higher priority.

Ughh just another random drop. I wish someone would create a Restored content mod already. ›››
I thought Kindo had done something that lets you get all of the new random stuff? Have you checked at The Nexus?

Tell me about it! It's frustrating as hell
Yeah the Operator's staff seems pretty sweet. Never gave it a chance myself, how can I when I have the Vran sword! ^^

Ah, I thought so. Was wondering why the preview post wasn't updating the spoiler name. Thanks for clearing that up!

Except I'm still in Flotsam. So it has to be a random loot drop, and a bug, since it looks like one of the best armors in the whole game. Oh well, finders keepers.

Haha finders keepers indeed!
I've never even seen that armour being mentioned. Whether in game or in a forum. Seems sweet as hell. 600 oil duration! Daaayum. Have fun tearing people to shreds mate

What's that ingredient on the far right of the list? That you need one of and don't have? Is it something you can get, or something that doesn't appear until the final chapter/never appears?

I got that screenie from GoG, it's not mine. The armor has other stats. The only thing I need is a drop from a draugir. I should be able to craft this in the second chapter.
