Try this thread, where a lot of people list their 5 favorite RPG's and explain what they like about them: http://en.thewitcher...the-reason-why/

There are a lot of games in that thread that aren't on your list, so they'd be great games for you to try.

The ones I recommend most (besides the Witcher games, of course ;D) are
Planescape: Torment
Baldur's Gate 1 & 2

Want to be IN a computer game? I'm making one, and I want a picture of you! See here for details.

I've made three new adventures for TW1; you can get them at corylea.com/.

I've also made a bunch of mods that fix bugs, kill annoyances or tweak gameplay; you can get those at the Witcher Nexus.

Depends on what you're looking for in an RPG. I enjoyed Gothic 2, Baldurs Gate 1 and 2. People usually claim that Planescape Torment is one of the best story-driven RPGs and people also speak high praise of Fallout 1 and 2.

Well, by saying you didn't want the Elder Scrolls, I am guessing you mean you have played those too much. I will list RPG's that are slightly similar:
Fallout 3 and New Vegas (made by the same people as The Elder Scrolls and is pretty much just a future version of Oblivion or Skyrim)
BioShock (not really an RPG, but it can by classified as one, its an open-world horror game)
MassEffect (Made by the same people as Dragon Age, and is pretty much a future version of it)
Diablo (A classic ARPG, Hack 'n Slash game with lots of items to pick up, a little old, but its very addictive)
Assassins Creed (A beautiful open-world, semi-RPG, with lots of things to do and beautiful assassinations)
The other Elder Scrolls (TES) games, I mean you may have heard of Skyrim and maybe Oblivon, but Morrowind (TES 3) is good, some people don't talk about it anymore, but its a lot of fun and also the games before that, you can get the first one (The Arena) for free at the Bethesda website along with TES 2 Daggerfall, and they can provide a lot of fun for a while. Also try the DLC's for the games, Skyrim has a few really nice ones that make the game even more awesome, Oblivion has some nice ones and so does Morrowind. Also try out moddb.com you can get mad plugins and mods for TES that really enhances and changes the game, also on moddb.com is RPG mods for games like Half-Life and stuff, so the original game may not be RPG but there are some nice mods to make them ones. And if you have a nice computer and nice internet, try out Garrys Mod, an excellent mod for Counter Strike and Half-Life 2, its not RPG itself, but they do have RPG servers, and they are the funnest thing you will ever experience in your life, until The Elder Scrolls Online of course.

Like Corylea has said Baldur's Gate the enhanced edition is out tonight if you really want it. A word of warning it's built on the D&D license so it can be intimidating at first.

Planescape also what an amazing title and I'd recommend first since it's only a singular title.

Yup. The Fallout series is one of my favorites with Fallout 2 being a game I try to play every year or two. I would also recommend New Vegas Ultimate Edition and just skipping Fallout 3.

I'll add Knights of the Old Republic II, like Planescape, Obsidian took the cliches of the genre/ip and threw them out the window. It's one of the best Star Wars if not rpgs of the previous generation. Great story and even better characters with Kriea being one of the best female characters written.

Deus Ex, probably the best cyberpunk rpg. At first it has a very complicated plot that all comes together tied into modern day conspiracies and a great mix of rpg/shooter gameplay. Deus Ex is well a right of passage for gamers.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines is a brilliant game and of the last titles from now gone Troika. Based on the Pen and Paper game World of Darkness. Great writing and dark humor in a present day setting it's a must have. This is what you need to get it working on Windows 7 and this community patch/mod adds in missing content and fixes old bugs.

To add only what has not been mentioned yet:
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1+2 are excellent
Neverwinter Nights

And if you like some good ol' classic dungeon crawling:
Legend of Grimrock

Gothic series (the first 3), Fallout 1 and 2, Baldurs Gate, Planescape: Torment, Deus Ex (original and Human Revolution), Dark Souls, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2, Mass Effect series, Risen (the original, I hate the sequel).

For roguelike RPGs, try Nethack, Elona and Dungeons of Dredmor.

If you're really serious about playing computer RPG's (on which newer Elder Scrolls games and DA:O barely qualify) then you should consider this list of classic/traditional isometric computer RPG's:

- Fallout 1 & 2
- Planescape: Torment
- Baldur's Gate I and especially Baldur's Gate 2.
- Arcanum: of Steamworks & Magick Obscura

If you don't mind playing "older" RPG's, you might want to try out some series/sagas like:

- Ultima
- Might and Magic (not Heroes of Might and Magic)
- Wizardry
- Realms of Arkania
- AD&D games: Pool of Radiance, Eye of the Beholder, Menzoberranzan
- The widely praised Betrayal at Krondor

Note that all of the above games are considered "hardcore" RPG's, meaning that DA:O or Elder Scrolls games are like a stroll in the park compared to the depth of character creation/customization and general gameplay of these traditional computer role-playing games.

If you want to play something more "modern" feeling, you may want to try out:

- Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2
- Drakensang & Drakensang: The River of Time
- Vampire: The Masquerade (two games)
- Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic I & II

And one of the best modern RPG's apart from The Witcher series:

- Fallout: New Vegas

You may want to play the first two beforehand, and skip the third entirely. If you like action/RPG's with little to no role-playing (like Diablo) you could try out:

- Divine Divinity
- Torchlight 1 & 2
- Bastion (very good one by the way).

Also, if you so happen to like dungeon crawls like Eye of the Beholder, there is a modern game with an old soul (modern graphics and sound, old-school gameplay) that is actually really good and engaging and comes with my recommendation:

- Legend of Grimrock.

Most of these games are available online from GOG.com, DRM-free!!

Planescape: Torment and Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 are probably my favorite computer RPG's of all time.
Facio, Voco, Ferre.

PC does not equal Windows. Personal computers run many different operating systems, like GNU/Linux and, why not, Windows. PC games should be available for all major platforms. Let's not be handcuffed and tied to one vendor. Utilize standard, cross-platform technologies!

RPG list of the motherfucking century coming up!

Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2
Jade Empire
Deus Ex & Human Revolution
Bastion
The Bindings of Isaac
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic
Divine Divinity
Magicka
Diablo 2
Titan Quest
Torchlight 2
Ys: The Oath in Felgana

That's one hell of a diverse list, if I may say so myself. Hope you find something that suits your fancy mate!
Tearing my hair out, trying to figure out why there aren't any non-human Witchers, or at least something equivalent to a Witcher oriented warrior.

Share your Skyrim characters here! Feel free to post pictures, tell a story, or whatever! It's all about dem adventures boios!

I would call some games from that list as action games, not RPG (mainly Magicka, Bastion, Isaac and Dark Messiah). But its debatable.

NOOOOOOO Pham! You said the forbidden words! Any time one questions whether or not something is an RPG it's bound to provoke the debate that's been going on since the beginning of time itself :whatthe:

It's fine to have that debate, but this thread isn't the place for it. Try the thread called But What IS an RPG?

Depends on what kind of RPG you like. If you prefer more action oriented games then some of those old school games may not be your cup of tea.

Knights of the Old Republic, Deus Ex, Mass Effect, DA:O and such are probably more in line with what someone who wants gameplay like TW (1 or 2).

At the dawn of time when the gods were young, they gathered around a table to drink mead and discuss what each thought was the definition of role-playing. Some supported the opinion that role-playing required depth in narration and decision making, while all agreed that attributes and grinding would not suffice. And so they decided to settle the dispute by creating a meta-RPG: that is, a role-playing game where you role-play other games, ad infinitum.

With their powers, they managed to give life to all sorts of creatures: mammals, reptiles, plants, bacteria. Some were good aligned, like the loyal dogs, while others turned to evil professions and set up publishing companies and legal services.

Such was the power of these primeval gods, that their creation in turn played more role-playing games, vastly simplified and unworthy of the gods' divinity.
A long time has passed since and the ancestral deities have been forgotten by their characters, watched in silence by only a handful of gods patient enough to wait for the answer to their timeless question.

In shame our creators watch us play terrible computer RPG's and rejoice when we play a good one, reminiscent of their former diversion. In vain they have tried to communicate with us, attempting to steer our naive souls in the right direction. So says the unknown prophet: do not let oversized weapons and streamlining deceive you, for the answer to role-playing lies deep beneath the surface of your ultra-damaging weapons and pansexual characters.

And to this date, the enigma has not been resolved. We take comfort in knowing that a new age of illumination shall arrive, and disperse the dark clouds of action and MMO's.
Facio, Voco, Ferre.

Well if you are looking for a good story and don't argue about the definition of RPG then Nier for PS3 or 360 is a solid choice. It's honestly my favorite game this generation and I can't recommend it enough. Also it's pretty cheap now going for around $20 or less.

All games already mentioned are recommendable. If I may add one more: Gothic 3, if you like to run around a beautiful, open world and kill things. With the fan-patch it's now decently playable. The story, though, is pretty weak (or should I say, poorly delivered, since the plot had potential).
