NPC non-interactability bug, Chapter 2 -- kaedwani camp

Hey folks,

I have the Steam enhanced edition version of Witcher 2. Game has been running fine up until just recently. I finished part of a quest in Chapter 2, where Dethmold gives you some items needed to cross the mist -- I ran into Zoltan and he came along. I didn't go into the mist right away, instead, I attempted to finish up the rotfiend quest when I discovered that I couldn't interact with NPCs. The talk icon had vanished. Now, apparently at one point this was a known issue. I googled it and found several forum threads about this very issue -- most of them seemed to say I could roll back a certain update or get rid of Cap 4 or add Cap 5, but I don't know to check or change updates for the Steam version, and I have yet to see any sort of simple explanation of the Cap 4/5 thing in terms of how to actually do that, or even if it is relevant to me. (I gather the Cap 4/5 thing has to do with crossfire set ups... I only have a single video card, though it is AMD/Radeon.)

Regardless, those were all older threads and most of the things they mention have been superseded by now. Also, this issue occurred as I was playing, it wasn't a preexisting thing.

Any ideas on how I might fix this?

Okay well, the issue seems to have resolved itself. Not sure why, but I'm not complaining. Thanks folks.

Glad it all worked out for you, talk about being a pain in the ass glitch! Enjoy playing the awesome game! :)
Tearing my hair out, trying to figure out why there aren't any non-human Witchers, or at least something equivalent to a Witcher oriented warrior.

I had this issue with the ghost in the mental hospital or whatever it was called, i couldnt talk to him, after some searching in this forums it appears that if you just exit the game, change resolution or supersampling to ON/OFF then go back the talk icon will be there.

since then i had the problem around 5 or 6 times with different NPCs, the solution always worked.
