The game unfortunately treats it as if you killed him.

most of the decisions made in the witcher 1 are not considered in the 2. I hope it will be better in the third one.

Imported decisions are wasted effort and yet another worthless gimmick pioneered by Bioware.

It's a worthless gimmick only if done poorly. Many of my choices in The Witcher were reflected and/or referenced mostly in dialogue in Witcher 2. That's all that you really need. Just a couple of lines acknowledging what you did. That way you stimulate the player by giving him feedback on his decisions. I sided with Thaler in the first game, his messenger came up to me and delivered me a message in the second game. That's a very easy way of telling a story with imported elements.

So no, I don't think that imported decisions are a "wasted effort". Imported decisions that were implemented poorly and does not reflect on your choices from previous games are a wasted effort.
Tearing my hair out, trying to figure out why there aren't any non-human Witchers, or at least something equivalent to a Witcher oriented warrior.

Is it possible that when you face either Siegfried/Iorveth or both in the Ice Wastes that they've been drawn into Jacques dream just as you have? Thus making their deaths in that realm real. It explains their demise in the second game.
I was once asked by a journalist what my thoughts were on the modern world slipping into ignorance and apathy, I told him, "I don't know and I don't fucking care!"

"It's was done badly the first time! It'll always be bad!"

Though I understand where you're coming from. Most of the time RPGs just tell you how big the decision is yet you don't experience it's effects. You only get cutscenes and dialogue but almost nothing that affects your game or environment(ME3,FO3,FNV etc.) glad W2 fixes that kind of thing.
I'm that guy who won that t-shirt.

The idea behind it is good - the execution is not. I would be happy if saves imported into sequels merely had some extra dialogue or a character appearing. Although I would like it, I dont expect my previous decisions to drastically alter the storyline in a game, its just too much to ask of any developer.

Well said. You also have to consider the effect on playability for those who did not play the earlier game. Each game has to stand on its own. You can't have large carry-overs such as elite gear or different quest lines. It's very tempting to go there. But the developers and their product managers have to resist.

Or you make players able to choose between default, importing and setting your own choices when starting a new game. Two birds in one stone!

sure, in the fantasy land where developers don't have budget or time constraints.
